Tony Ferguson Agrees To Fight Somewhere Else If Dana White And UFC Cuts Him Off – “Gonna Get Better”
Tony Ferguson
UFC Abu Dhabi was an emotional ride for Tony Ferguson. The 40-year-old American recorded his eighth consecutive defeat inside the octagon after he lost to Michael Chiesa. His rear-naked choke submission loss puts his UFC future in the shadows. However, the fighter, also known by his moniker ‘El Cucuy,’ doesn’t seem to lose hope in his MMA career.
Speaking to the media after his loss, Ferguson was asked whether he would consider fighting somewhere else if Dana White decided to cut him off from the promotion. ‘El Cucuy’ bashed his growing age and committed that if fans wanted to see him more, he would fight for them anywhere. The 40-year-old American said,
“If those fans out there are willing enough to come out here and fly and spend thousands of dollars to come watch me compete somewhere. I guarf**kingte you, they’re going to follow me somewhere. And that’s the humblest thing I can f**king say because no matter where I’m at no matter what I’m doing I’m going to get better and better and better and better.”
It is noteworthy that Ferguson left his glove inside the UFC octagon following a disappointing defeat to Chiesa. This certainly led to rumors that ‘El Cucuy’ might consider retirement from the MMA. Despite all this, he is willing to comeback but doesn’t really want to leave UFC for sure.
Tony Ferguson “Still Hungry” To Stay In UFC
Loss inside the UFC octagon is still bearable. But losing eight consecutive bouts certainly makes any fighter’s career questionable. That’s the case with 40-year-old Ferguson. However, when asked what it meant to leave a glove after losing to Chiesa in the MMA cage, ‘El Cucuy’ had an interesting reply.
“Because these new gloves are cool. I want them to see it. I have one glove in that cage that means I’m undecided… I still want to be a part of the UFC. I think that I have a lot to offer these younger fighters… I got a lot of sh*t to do I’m still hungry.”
Ferguson added that he still wants to be associated with UFC. He offered to start coaching young fighters, considering his immense experience, but he added that he would not turn to a manager. However, that depends on his conversation with his wife. It will be interesting to see what ‘El Cucuy’ does now. What-so-ever is the case, fans would certainly want to see him more in the UFC.
