Henry Cavill Has Been Caught up in a Controversy That Might Not Even Be Real.

Henry Cavill, 40K

Henry Cavill is known mainly for his roles as Superman in DCEU movies and his depiction of Geralt in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher. He has been known to be very passionate about the lore behind his roles as he admitted to being a big fan of The Witcher games and books.

He has recently found himself in a bit of a drama though as there are rumors that he is leaving his role in the upcoming Warhammer 40k film/series because of the introduction of female Custodes. Cavill has shown his interest and love for Warhammer multiple times over the years.

The Adeptus Custodes are an elite unit in the Warhammer 40k universe, also known as the Emperor’s Golden Warriors. While the members of this unit have been all male, there is no explicit mention in the lore that only men can be a part of this elite unit.

Warhammer 40k has already included females in factions such as the Sisters of Battles before. But the recent inclusion of female Custodes is the current center of the controversy as some fans think it’s an unnecessary move that retcons the lore.

The main rumor of this controversy is that Henry Cavill is allegedly not happy with this decision and might leave the project over it. But according to Reddit user u/JacenSolo_SWGOH who commented on a post that discussed this topic, these rumors are “nothing but rage bait”.

In reality, Cavill has not made any public statements about leaving the show, and there is no official news from either Cavill or Amazon MGM Studios. Some comments on the post welcomed this move saying that the change showed how the Warhammer universe is always moving forward. But other comments argued that it was just an attempt to please modern audiences.

Outside of this controversy, fans should note that the introduction of female Custodes doesn’t have some obviously hidden subtext to it and is purely a creative decision within the Warhammer universe.

The franchise does have a history of updating and sometimes retconning its lore, much to the dismay of some fans. And fans can only hope that these decisions are made with the goal of adding to the universe’s lore and narrative rather than for some agenda.

These rumors could be true or false but it is unlikely that Henry Cavill will leave the project that is being spearheaded by his presence over it. His involvement in this series was one of its biggest selling points.

Especially for himself since he is such a big fan of the Warhammer universe. And despite any personal view he may have regarding this, he is probably held by contractual obligations and won’t jeopardize his role.

Comments on Reddit noted that the uproar over this controversy seems to be confined to a vocal minority that is exaggerating this change. They point out that the majority of the fanbase is indifferent and focuses more on the quality of content. Fans express that there have been other changes and retcons to the lore that were accepted with far less drama.

And so, while there are valid concerns from fans that there has to be integrity maintained when it comes to the lore, it shouldn’t overshadow the positive side of a more inclusive universe. As Warhammer and its community continue to grow, so will its stories and characters.
