After recent comments from Dricus Du Plessis and Colby Covington in the UFC, Ferreira’s comments at the pre-fight presser were ridiculed by fans. They slammed it as insensitive toward Francis Ngannou, especially given the fighter’s loss of his son this year.

For the first time ever, Ngannou is making his MMA comeback after leaving the UFC. However, that wasn’t the main reason his press conference was buzzing; it was actually for the wrong reasons. Given the fact, Ferreira called himself Ngannou’s biggest challenge this year, which felt pretty out of touch considering Ngannou’s rough year and the loss of his son. However, fans weren’t having it and clapped back at his comment.

After Renan Ferreira’s comments went viral, UFC stars Gilbert Burns and Renato Moicano quickly stepped in to defend the Brazilian fighter. They clarified that the controversy stemmed from a mistranslation and that Ferreira did not mean disrespecting Francis Ngannou.

According to Burns and Moicano, the translator’s interpretation was incorrect, and Ferreira just said that Ngannou was going to have the biggest problem of his career and suggested that the comments were not intended to disrespect Ngannou.

Indeed, it highlights how a small translation error can completely alter the context and blow things out of proportion. However, the comment has undoubtedly added hype to the fight and fired up fans for the October 19th fight.
