With the buzz around Aegon’s Conquest becoming the next big thing in the Game of Thrones saga, netizens have been fan-casting The Witcher star Henry Cavill for the part of Aegon Targaryen. It’s no wonder, though, as this type of role suits him a lot, and he’s got quite an experience in the high fantasy genre.

So far, he’s one of the most popular bets for Aegon the Conqueror, although it remains to be seen whether the actor would find his way into the world of Westeros this time now that he’s no longer busy playing Superman or Geralt of Rivia.

Fans can also find solace in the fact that Tomlin sought guidance from Martin in his journey in translating the tale of Aegon’s Conquest to the small screen. After all, he promised to “respect the text” and make a vivid show that fans would hopefully love.

“The one I want to do is…”: The One Game of Thrones Spinoff Project That Can Bring Henry Cavill to HBO’s Universe is Still Not Shelved

Game of Thrones spinoff Aegon’s Conquest could still be Henry Cavill’s passport to the world of Westeros.

Game of Thrones fans are definitely rejoicing with all the lined-up projects heading their way soon. However, with all the planned spinoff series, only some are confirmed, and the unfortunate ones have been canceled or shelved for the time being.

After House of the Dragon, the most highly anticipated series would be Aegon’s Conquest, the tale of the conqueror who united the realm and became the first king of the Targaryen dynasty. There have been positive updates about the series, so fans will be assured that this is still moving forward.

Game Of Thrones Spinoff Aegon’s Conquest Is Confirmed To Be In The Works

After Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, HBO still wanted to explore the world of Westeros through spinoffs. Programming chief Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that they planned to pick which stories were worth telling. “The one I want to do is the one that I think is best creatively,” he stated. Obviously, with House of the Dragon already on its way to Season 3, that one was indeed one of the projects he was referring to.

Since they have touched upon the subject of the Targaryen dynasty, and there have been mentions of Aegon the Conqueror in the prequel series, the closest project for them to focus on is Aegon’s Conquest.

While details about the upcoming show remain scarce, it is worth noting that it has a scriptwriter already shaping its story. Mattson Tomlin shared some good news in an interview (via Nexus Point News) that he’s been spending time with George R.R. Martin and asking the author about Fire & Blood. In short, he’s already making some clarifications to help him craft a script that is true and respectful to the source.

Aegon’s Conquest is just one of the few spinoffs already in the works. Kit Harington’s Jon Snow has been shelved after a long-gestating process, while the Flea Bottom spinoff was officially canceled. Naomi Watt’s Bloodmoon is also no longer moving forward after its $30-million pilot episode has been rejected.
