A WNBA record was broken last night in the Connecticut Sun game against the Indiana Fever.

The Fever’s Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA rookie single-season three-point record when the first-year sensation connected on her 86th three-pointer of the season less than three minutes into the Fever’s game against the Sun in the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The previous record-holder was Rhyne Howard at the Atlanta Dream in 2022, who scored 85 three-pointers in a regular 34-game season.

Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun

In their second match up the season, the scores were neck-and-neck. The Sun beat the Fever in June, in a win so decisive that coach Christy Sides benched several starters early in the fourth quarter.

This time, the game was much tighter and very physical.

It looked like the Sun had victory in their grasp when Marina Mabrey shot a three-pointer that bumped the Sun up to 80 points to the Fever’s then-score of 78 in the fourth quarter.

However, a layup by Aliyah Boston, a runner by Clark and two free throws by Lexie Hull had the Fever catch up and block out the Sun, with the final score being 84 to 80 in the Fever’s favor.
