It’s far from over for the Sky.
After Wednesday’s 74-70 defeat at the hands of Washington Mystics, the Chicago Sky are now losers of four straight games. Things get even tougher for them when they host a surging Indiana Fever side on Friday.
Caitlin Clark and Co. have been on quite a tear since the month-long Olympic break, winning four of their last five games. At this point, there’s no doubt as to which team enters Friday’s showdown with momentum on their side.
Be that as it may, Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon remains unfazed. Speaking to the press after their disappointing loss to the 10th-placed Mystics on Wednesday, Weatherspoon made it abundantly clear that her team is far from ready to waive the white flag.
“We’re not down and out,” Weatherspoon said, via Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re not happy we didn’t win, but we’re not down and out. It’s not over for us unless we say it is.”
Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon argues with an official during her team’s game against the New York Liberty.
After Wednesday’s defeat, the Sky remains eighth in the WNBA with an 11-19 record. They are currently just one game ahead of the ninth-seeded Atlanta Dream, with only eight teams qualifying for the postseason.
Incidentally, it’s the Fever who are sixth in the league, but their 15-16 record have them sitting on a 3.5-game lead over the Sky. At this point, it’s going to be tough for Chicago to catch the Fever with just 10 games remaining on the docket.
A win on Friday, however, could just turn the tide for the Sky.
