“Maybe I Sounded Like An A**Hole”- Dana White Gives His Final Verdict On Overturning Jon Jones’ Only Career Loss

Dana White Supports Overturning Jon Jones' only career defeat

Dana White And Jon Jones

The MMA world seems quite unstable after the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combat Sports (ABC) lifted the ban on the infamous 12-6 elbow. There has been debate about overturning Jon Jones’ only career loss to date, which happened back in 2009 against Matt Hamill. Even the fighter himself urged Dana White to look into the matter after the announcement. However, the UFC President remained silent until he spoke to the media after the UFC 304.

In the post-fight press conference, White was asked about changing Jones’ only career loss. The UFC President replied that he had been willing to overturn it ever “since it happened.” He blamed the match referee of the Jones vs. Hamill fight and said,

“I’ve been trying to do that since it happened. I think I wanted it more than he did. So, it hasn’t worked out too well, though. I’ve been fighting for that for a long time. We had an incompetent referee… A guy who, we can all agree now. Maybe I sounded like an a**hole back in the day, but now we can all look back and a hundred percent say that the guy was completely incompetent.”

White also acknowledged that the Nevada State Athletic Commission “was at its weakest” when the Jones vs. Hamill fight happened. He criticized the referee, Steve Mazzagatti, and added fighting to overturn Jones’ sole defeat in his career for years.

Dana White Opens Up On Potential Jon Jones Vs. Tom Aspinall Bout

The UFC 304 concluded on a high note, not just for the MMA promotion but also for Tom Aspinall. After beating down Curtis Blaydes at Co-op Live, Manchester, the interim UFC Heavyweight Champion quickly called out Jon Jones. He said,

“Hello Jon, I have nothing against you personally, but I just think I’m better than you. I just know I can beat you in a fight, so I’m coming it.”

The Englishman also found a compelling response from the UFC President after the latter talked to the media in the post-fight presser. White said, “There’s no doubt, whoever wins the fight between Jon Jones and Stipe is a great fight for Aspinall.”

With a lot going on around Jones, it will be interesting to see if he can defeat Miocic in his upcoming comeback bout. If that happens, he will certainly have to face Tom Aspinall, who has been looking really great in the MMA cage lately. Whatever the case, fight fans can rest assured they will not be left without entertainment.
