Sheryl Swoopes candidly reacts after Angel ReeseSheryl Swoopes candidly reacts after Angel Reese’s rookie season ends with injury.

Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese announced on Saturday that she’s out for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury. WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes reacted to Reese’s unfortunate news by sending her a message on social media, saying it’s “part of God’s plan.”

Swoopes, who has been in the headlines for her commentary about Caitlin Clark, showed her support for Reese. She replied to the 22-year-old star’s pst on X, wherein she announced her season-ending injury.

“Damn kid! Keep your head up and know that it’s all a part of God’s plan. You have truly been remarkable this season! #minorsetbackforamajorcomeback,” Swoopes tweeted.

Angel Reese was coming off one of the best games of her young career against the LA Sparks on Friday. Reese finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and two assists on 9-for-15 shooting from the field. She also made all her five free throws and one 3-point shot in the Chicago Sky’s dominating 92-78 win.

However, Reese was listed as questionable ahead of Chicago’s game on Sunday versus the Dallas Wings. She was nursing a wrist injury but it was deemed serious enough to rule her out for the rest of the season.

With the Sky battling for the final playoff spot, Kamilla Cardoso will need to step up and provide more for the team. Isabelle Harrison could replace her in the starting lineup, while Brianna Turner is expected to get more playing time off the bench.

Here’s part of what Angel Reese wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter:

“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol.”

Angel Reese to be on the sidelines for the rest of the season

The Chicago Sky will need to adapt in the absence of Angel Reese if they want to make the playoffs. The Sky have a 12-22 record with six games remaining in the season. They are virtually tied with the Atlanta Dream for the eighth and final postseason spot but are ahead due to the tiebreaker.

Reese will be on the sidelines cheering her teammates who need to step up, especially Kamilla Cardoso. The No. 3 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft is more polished offensively than Reese, so the coaching staff might want to run some plays for her.

Nevertheless, Reese’s injury is a huge blow for the Sky. Her rebounding, energy and hustle will be hard to replace. Sky’s final six opponents are the Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, Minnesota Lynx, Phoenix Mercury, Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun.
