Tyson Fury, known for taking on some of the greatest fighters of his generation, has revealed there is one contender he will never face in the ring: his close friend and long-time training partner, Joseph Parker.

Fury, the former WBC heavyweight champion, has fought and defeated boxing legends like Wladimir Klitschko and Oleksandr Usyk. He also endured a brutal trilogy with Deontay Wilder. However, when asked if he would ever consider fighting Parker, Fury was adamant in his refusal.

“Definitely not. I’d rather give him the belt than fight him for it,” Fury stated. “We’re too close for that fight and there’s plenty of heavyweights out there. He doesn’t need to fight me, I don’t want to get beat up, sorry!”

The situation could become complicated if Fury defeats Usyk in their rematch for the WBA ‘super’, WBO, and WBC titles on December 21. Parker, who recently won the WBO ‘interim’ title by beating Zhilei Zhang, would be next in line to challenge for the unified championship.

Despite the potential mandate, Fury’s friendship with Parker remains a significant barrier. Parker himself has acknowledged the complexity of the situation, expressing both his respect for Fury and the financial and career benefits of such a high-profile fight.

“If it ever came down to it and Tyson was No. 1 and I was No. 2, and there was no one else to fight, and it could help me and my family and secure us for the rest of our lives, I think Tyson and I could do something together,” Parker said. “But I have the utmost respect for the guy and what he has done for my career, and if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Parker’s comments suggest a willingness to set aside their friendship if the opportunity arose, emphasizing the professional respect and personal gratitude he holds for Fury. However, the camaraderie between the two fighters makes such a scenario unlikely unless absolutely necessary for their careers and futures.
