The Paris Olympics 2024 is facing a significant backlash from boxing and MMA athletes. Notable combat sports stars, including UFC champion Islam Makhachev and boxing sensation Ryan Garcia, have voiced their displeasure over the controversial opening ceremony.
Initially, Garcia took to Instagram to express his displeasure over what he saw as religious disrespect. He declared that the Paris Olympics should be banned for mocking Christianity and Jesus Christ. Following Garcia’s remarks, the Dagestani fighter, Makhachev also criticized the Paris Olympics.
Makhachev posted a side-by-side comparison of the 2014 Russian Olympics ceremony and the 2024 Paris Olympics. He criticized and expressed his anger on X, stating, “Paris Games is a shame and dark stain on the Olympic movement. We should bring it back to Russia again to fix everything.”
The reigning lightweight champion urged moving the Olympics to Russia to improve the event. However, Makhachev is not the only UFC star to express his discomfort on the controversial Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony, many other UFC stars have also criticized it.
