Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark first caught the attention of the basketball world with her deep-range shooting when she was at Iowa.
Still, many doubted that her college success would translate to the WNBA. But since being drafted first overall by the Fever, the 22-year-Clark has done nothing but prove her critics wrong and gain more supporters.
One of them is NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq has frequently expressed his admiration for Clark. He said he’s personally witnessed the Fever star play, and he was truly impressed.
“When I see stuff on TV I’m like, ‘OK, I’d like to see it in person,’” said Shaq in a report from USA Today’s Lindsey Schnell. “Well, I saw it in person. She can play.
“From a basketball standpoint, she makes all the right plays, gets everybody involved and she has that Steph Curry (shooting) range.”
Shaq isn’t the first person to compare Clark to Curry. But safe to say, the Fever guard would appreciate the compliment from the four-time NBA champion.
Aside from their limitless shooting range, fans and analysts alike have said the similarities between Clark and Curry also include their court vision and playmaking abilities.
Clark is in the running for the MVP award for helping the Fever advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. She’s averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and a league-leading 8.5 assists.
