Roy Jones Jr. entertained the boxing world with his signature style. In the 1990s, Jones was the pound-for-pound king. Known by a variety of names like RJ, Junior, Superman, and Captain Hook, Jones held undisputed titles from middleweight to heavyweight.

Jones had a rough childhood, particularly his relationship with his father. However, he, his wife Natlyn, and their three sons, Roy III, DeShaun, and DeAndre, had a cordial relationship. Unfortunately, DeAndre, the youngest son, committed suicide on Saturday.

Tristan Tate, Mike Swick, and Others Offer Condolences to Roy Jones Jr.

Jones had a rather lengthy professional boxing career, though not at the highest level. His latest fight was at cruiserweight against Anthony Pettis, an ex-UFC lightweight champion. Before that, he even fought Mike Tyson in an exhibition bout.

Unfortunately, his youngest son didn’t live long, as he took his life at 32. It was Captain Hook himself who revealed the sad news on social media.

“Unfortunately, my son Deandre took his life on Saturday. I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family. I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away. Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss.” posted Jones, thanking the fans, friends, and family for their love and support.

The combat sports community supported the legendary boxer at this tough time. Vinnie Pazienza, Mike Swick, Amir Khan, Tristan Tate, and others paid tribute. “Damn Roy this breaks my heart. Praying for your family. If there’s anything we can do for you let us know 🙏🏽,” commented Tate.

“MY BROTHER!!!!!! STAY STRONG!!!! BIG LOVE 2 U CALL ME ANYTIME!!!!” Pazienza wrote. Swick empathized with Jones as he suffered in a similar situation. Amir Khan, the British-Pakistani boxer, offered condolences to the Jones family.
