Inspired by true events surrounding a WWII mission known as Operation Postmaster, the story follows an unusual unit of rogues and mavericks sent by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill to fight the Nazis.

The group was formed with the help of a small group of military officials, which included James Bond author Ian Fleming (played by Freddie Fox in the movie).

As the title suggests, these guys use very “ungentlemanly” and unconventional fighting techniques, which changed the course of the war. It also laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.

The story is based on Damien Lewis’ 2014 book Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII.

Following the trend of some of Guy Ritchie’s latest movies (including Operation Fortune and The Covenant), The Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare received a straight-to-streaming release in the UK on Prime Video.

The movie has landed a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (from 143 reviews).

Back in March, Henry Cavill posted a video on Instagram showing some footage from the film, and sharing some high praise for his co-star Alan Ritchson.

“Alan’s a terrible person to work with, he’s uncouth, eats too much, he’s out of shape, just has no dedication at all,” Cavill joked at first, to then clarify his feelings saying: “In all seriousness, Alan’s wonderful to work with.”

“He does some seriously cool stuff in this movie. And by this movies I mean [The] Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”
