Female Boxer Accused of Being Male Sues Over Online Harassment

Imane Khelif, who won the gold medal in the 61kg boxing category at the Paris 2024 Olympics after convincingly defeating numerous opponents, has been at the center of a gender debate throughout the event.

Just before the final day of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), made a shocking statement, saying that his organization “will decide whether boxing will be allowed at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics or not.”

The reason for this is that the International Boxing Association (IBA) has repeatedly issued statements against the IOC. The IBA publicly criticized Imane Khelif, claiming that she was not qualified to participate in the 2024 Olympics because she is male.

Meanwhile, the IOC has supported the female boxers, stating that the documents in their passports prove they are female and are eligible to compete.

For more than a week, these two organizations have continuously exchanged hostile statements. The IBA has emphasized that the IOC is complicit in the injustice within boxing, while the IOC has responded that the IBA is engaging in gender discrimination.

In light of the recent disputes, Imane Khelif herself is planning to sue the IBA. The 2024 Olympic boxing champion, through her lawyer, has filed a complaint with Paris prosecutors.

“Boxer Imane Khelif has decided to begin a new battle, a battle for justice, dignity, and honor. The investigation will determine who is behind this campaign of racism, misogyny, and gender discrimination,” lawyer Nabil Boudi hinted at the IBA.
