Skip Bayless Says He's LOST RESPECT For Caitlin Clark After TERRBILE Larry Bird Comparison. Nice. - YouTube

Welcome to the Bandana Podcast, where we call a spade a spade. Today, we’re diving into Skip Bayless’s recent comments about Caitlin Clark. Bayless has claimed he lost respect for Clark simply because she chose not to participate in the Three-Point Contest after an intense college season that carried straight into the WNBA draft and then the regular season. She finally took a well-deserved break, but that wasn’t acceptable to Skip Bayless.

For Bayless, losing respect for someone isn’t just about basketball anymore; it’s personal. The way he talks about figures like LeBron James and Terrell Owens shows that when Bayless loses respect, it goes beyond the sport. Now, Caitlin Clark is in his crosshairs.

In a recent segment on his show, Bayless expressed his disappointment that Caitlin Clark declined to participate in the Three-Point Shootout. He mentioned that Clark said she was mentally weary and hadn’t had time to practice for the contest. Bayless argued that great shooters, like Clark, should be able to perform without extra practice, and compared her to Larry Bird, who famously dominated the Three-Point Contest in its early days. However, it’s worth noting that Bird was already a veteran when the contest started in 1986, unlike Clark, who’s still early in her career.

Bayless’s comments about Clark reflect a personal disappointment rather than a purely basketball-related critique. He criticized her performance in the All-Star game, where she went 0 for 7 from three-point range, and concluded that he now only views her as “really good” instead of “great.”

Let’s set things straight. While I didn’t like that Clark opted out of the contest, losing respect for her over it seems extreme. The Three-Point Shootout isn’t the end-all, be-all of her career, and it’s important to keep things in perspective. Clark’s impact on the court is significant—she’s leading her team from 13 wins last season to already 11 this season, and she’s also leading the league in assists, which can naturally come with more turnovers.

Moreover, Skip Bayless is leaving FS1 Undisputed, which has been struggling with viewership. He’s looking for new ways to stay relevant, and targeting Caitlin Clark might be part of that strategy. ESPN, meanwhile, has no plans to bring him back to First Take, and he’s currently without a major platform.

So, if ranting about Caitlin Clark is Skip Bayless’s way of staying in the spotlight, then so be it. But we’re here to call it like we see it. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks for tuning in to the Bandana Podcast!
