A social media detective believes he has uncovered evidence that Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys are destined to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.

Every year is “Super Bowl or bust” for the Dallas Cowboys, even though they haven’t played in the NFC Championship Game since 1995, the last year they won the Super Bowl. Though the team has recorded three straight 12-win seasons under Mike McCarthy, they have a woeful 1-3 record in the postseason under his watch.

Most non-Cowboys fans naturally write them off every year (understandably so because of their constant postseason meltdowns). Still, the Super Bowl or bust label hasn’t escaped internally for Jerry Jones’ group his year.

Brandon Loree, a writer at SB Nation’s Blogging The Boys website, noticed something interesting about Mike McCarthy’s history as a head coach for the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

McCarthy lost in the Wild Card Round in his fourth year with the Packers and Cowboys in 2009 and 2023, respectively. However, in his fifth year as their head coach, McCarthy redeemed himself by leading the Packers to a Super Bowl 45 championship.

So if history repeats itself on Mike McCarthy’s end, he’ll also redeem himself by leading Dallas to a Super Bowl championship in his fifth year as their head coach:

No head coach in NFL history has won a Super Bowl with multiple teams. So for all the criticism McCarthy receives, he’d essentially lock down a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame if he actually led Dallas to their long-awaited sixth Lombardi Trophy.

The Cowboys will kick off their 2024 season with a road contest against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Mike McCarthy May Be Coaching For His Job In 2025

McCarthy is entering the fifth and final year of his contract with the Cowboys. If Dallas doesn’t at least reach the NFC Championship Game in 2024, Jerry Jones will most likely make a change at head coach.
