Tom Brady’s debut as a FOX Sports NFL broadcaster was met with mixed reactions from fans, despite him joining forces with Kevin Burkhardt, who received commendations for his handling of the broadcast.

After retiring for the second and final time, Brady sealed a massive 10-year deal with FOX, bagging a hefty $375 million, making him one of the highest-paid figures in media.

The NFL veteran threw his hat into the broadcasting ring during a game featuring the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns, held in the fiercely loyal Dawg Pound zone at Huntington Bank Field.

As fate had it, this was also the moment Cowboys star Dak Prescott put paper to ink on a historic four-year extension worth $240M, climbing to the peak as the NFL’s top earner.

Brady’s entry into sports commentary was marked by the NFL with a comment celebrating his initial moments next to Burkhardt. “We’re here,” Tom Brady remarked about the new venture. “It’s been quite a journey but I love being your partner.”.

Tackling his first commentary task, Brady honed in on Prescott’s record-setting contract, underscoring that financial gains come with heightened expectations. “Dak signed the largest contract in the history of the NFL. Now, he’s gotta go out there and earn it. 2023 was his best season, but going forward, its going to be [about] what happens in the postseason. Today, his challenge is Myles Garrett.”

Tom Brady’s debut as a broadcaster was met with sharp criticism from fans longing for the return of Greg Olsen, who had garnered acclaim alongside Burkhardt last season. The shift caused an outpouring of displeasure on social media, notably on X.

On Twitter, the sentiments ran strong with one fan posting: “The only thing worse than the Browns offense is Tom Brady’s performance in the booth.”

A second enthusiast added fuel to the fire, remarking: “It was a mistake to take Greg Olsen off the main broadcast team for Fox and give the position to Tom Brady. Greg Olsen was amazing at color commentary, and Brady so far is just kinda bland and boring.”

The disapproval rippled through social media where another user commented: “I don’t want to overreact to Week 1, but Tom Brady is the worst announcer in the NFL.”

Piling on, another critic didn’t hold back: “Maybe someone should have listened to Tom Brady actually say words before dropping $300 million on him.”

Brady’s first-game analysis also became the butt of online jokes, emphasized by a tweet mocking his obvious commentary “It’s hard to make ten, but really hard to make 20 yards,” which spread rapidly among football fans.

The tweet highlighted an awkward moment for Brady, where his commentary seemed to fall short of the high expectations set by his hefty contract. To make matters worse, Brady was caught repeating the same phrase almost immediately later in the game.
