Bad News and Good News for Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever: Caitlin Clark Could Face Suspension After 6th Technical Foul in Loss Vs. Las Vegas Aces

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark made history anew during their 78-74 loss against the Las Vegas Aces, setting the new WNBA record for most assists in a single season.

Clark came into the game with 312 assists, the third-highest single-season mark behind Connecticut Sun star Alyssa Thomas (316 in 2023) and Courtney Vandersloot (314 in 2023). With three games remaining, however, it was virtually guaranteed that the Indiana Fever rookie would surpass them both.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes star struggled to score in the first half against the Las Vegas Aces, shooting 0-of-5 from the field and 0-of-2 from the free throw line. Clark also notched three turnovers and three fouls.

However, she tried to compensate by notching six first-half assists. Caitlin Clark broke the assists record with under five minutes to go in the second quarter when she inbounded the ball to Kelsey Mitchell, who drove to the basket for a floater.

Caitlin Clark finished the night with 18 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and six turnovers while going 7-of-18 from the field in 34 minutes.

Caitlin Clark is in danger of missing a game for the Indiana Fever

As mentioned, Caitlin Clark particularly struggled with foul trouble in the first half. When she was called for her second foul midway through the first quarter on a drive by Tiffany Hayes, Caitlin Clark picked up her sixth technical foul of the season for smacking the stanchion holding up the hoop.

Clark could be suspended if she picks up her seventh technical foul in the Indiana Fever’s final two regular season games. After a seventh technical foul, a player will be issued another suspension after every two ensuing technical fouls.

The good news for the Indiana Fever is that the number of technical fouls doesn’t carry over into the playoffs. If she picks up her seventh technical on Sunday against the Dallas Wings, Clark will get some much-needed day off against the Washington Mystics in the regular season finale.
