Caitlin Clark against racism: WNBA superstar speaks out amidst concerning abuse from fans
Jemele Hill comes out in support of Caitlin Clark after Indiana Fever rookie shot back against racist fans attacking WNBA players.
Caitlin Clark possibly did not envision surpassing all expectations and being a part of the All-NBA team in her rookie season. She also probably did not envision her Indiana Fever starting with a 1-8 record to finish 6th in the standings. All of this happened despite her playing approximately ten months of basketball. But what she did not envision the most is what the WNBA players would face because of some fans.
The unanimous Rookie of the Year took to the podium for her exit interview. The Athletic’s James Boyd asked her about her response to what other players and her coach alluded to regarding racism, trolling, and threats faced by WNBA players. She replied that it was upsetting. Clark also denounced those fans who have been negative towards other players.
It’s definitely upsetting. Nobody in our league should be facing any sort of racism, hurtful, disrespectful, hateful comments, and threats. Those aren’t fans, those are trolls, and it’s a real disservice to the people in our league, the organization, and the WNBA. There are so many positive storylines that can be celebrated.

Caitlin Clark suggested that fans could instead focus on the greatness of the league. There are enough good things happening where they could focus their attention. Instead of that, she called them a disservice as they were being negative towards the very same players she grew up idolizing.
I asked #IndianaFever star Caitlin Clark about the racism and other hate #WNBA players have endured this season:

This is the second instance where she has asked the fans to be respectful towards other players and personnel. The Indiana Fever rookie has also tried to shut down media narratives that painted her opponents as villains. But it seems positivity is the way she wants to go.
Caitlin Clark’s former critic supports her stance on hate
Former sports media host Jemele Hill is infamous for dismissing Caitlin Clark’s fame on the basis of her race and s*xual preferences. But after what the Fever rookie said, she added her words on her X account in support.
It needs to be repeated often that Caitlin Clark didn’t ask for any of this, and attaching her character to the ugly behavior of some of the people who call themselves her fans — they aren’t her fans but people who have weaponized her to express their hatred of Black and LGBTQ+ women — is wildly unfair.

Jemele Hill was clear that it was not Caitlin Clark who asked for this hate to happen in her name. Those fans spewing hatred in the WNBA should not be using Clark’s name unfairly. Jemele Hill‘s name came to the attention of the basketball world when she suggested that the rookie’s fame was not justified. Her words became a part of debates, and many pointed to her for showing jealousy.
