Angel Reese turned in another noteworthy performance on Saturday as she helped the Chicago Sky notch their first win in the second half of the season after taking down the Los Angeles Sparks, 90-86.
Reese did not have the best of games in this one, shooting just 4-of-13 from the field for 14 points. She did collect 11 rebounds, though, to mark her 19th double-double of what has been an outstanding rookie campaign.
Before the game, Sparks head coach Curt Miller was asked to share his thoughts on the Sky star and the challenge he expected his team to face during Saturday’s showdown. The veteran coach used the perfect word to describe Reese’s game.
“I use the word relentless,” Miller said, via David Yapkowitz of ClutchPoints. “I love her motor, I love her energy. She doesn’t stop. … She’s got a great IQ, she’s got a passion for this game. You have to match her motor and her energy first off. Talented offensive player, even more talented as the ball comes off the rim, and her ability to get them extra possessions and get her second or third opportunities is elite.”
All this was on display on Saturday night as Reese helped lead Chicago to their 11th win in 26 games played this season. Right now, the Sky are precariously sitting on the eighth and final playoff spot in the league.
Miller wasn’t done, though. The 55-year-old shot-caller then went on to compare Reeser to former WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones, who Miller was able to coach during his stint with the Connecticut Sun.
“I’ve coached one of the best offensive rebounders in the world in someone like Jonquel Jones and Angel Reese is already one of the elite rebounders in the world,” Miller said. “So she poses that problem, but more than anything she gives them very much an identity of a team that competes, that fights and that is passionate.”
That’s some pretty lofty praise from a veteran coach such as Miller, which speaks volumes of the type of reputation Reese has earned across the league so early on in her career.
