Was the offensive player who gave Caitlin Clark a black eye in the Fever’s loss to the Sun in the WNBA Playoffs a conspiracy? Was Caitlin Clark always the target???

Who gave Caitlin Clark a black eye during Fever loss to Sun in WNBA Playoffs?

In what was her first WNBA playoff game, the Fever star was unable to help her team avoid defeat, and worse yet is that she took a nasty blow to the face.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will be licking their wounds after their Game 1 loss to the Connecticut Sun, though for the star rookie that notion may be more literal than figurative after she earned herself a blackeye for her troubles.

Caitlin Clark & DiJonai Carrington have been here before

On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark made her highly anticipated WNBA playoff debut against the Connecticut Sun. Unfortunately, did not go according to plan as the Sun essentially took apart the Fever on their way to a 93-69 win at home. As for Clark, Connecticut hounded her all game long, resulting in a dismal night for the top rookie in the league who shot 4-for-17 on the night. It should be said the Sun boasts one of the strongest defenses in the league. Indeed, there has been no team during the regular season that held its opponents to fewer points (73.6) or allowed them fewer rebounds (31.7).

Yet, it was just the loss or Clark’s performance in it that got folks talking, but there was also a moment in which insult was added to injury or perhaps the reverse: the injury was added to insult. A reference to the moment when Clark took a poke to the eye from DiJonai Carrington during the early stages of the game. At the time the Fever star was passing the ball when Carrington appeared to catch her right in the face. There was no foul called but by the end of the game, it was clear that the damage had been done as Clark could be seen sporting a black eye.

If Carrington’s name rings a bell, that’s because this isn’t the first time she and Clark have clashed. Earlier this season, the pair had a spat of sorts when the Sun player appeared to mock Clark for what she perceived as flopping at the time. This is to say there is clearly no love lost between the two of them. At any rate, these are just details. The reality remains that the Fever are now down 1-0 in the series and as such will have to dust themselves off quickly as they prepare for Game 2. Black eyes and all.
