Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark just finished her longest break from playing basketball this year after spending about a month off during the WNBA’s Olympic halt.
However, she wasted no time in showing people why she’s such a factor on the court during her team’s 98-89 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night at home.
While speaking with the media after the post-break victory, Clark talked about what it was like getting back into the swing of things after having so much time off during the regular season.
“I called for a sub six minutes in, if I’m being honest. I was like, holy cow,” Clark said with a laugh about Friday night’s game, via Clutch Points’ Matthew Byrne. “I was like I need a quick minute here because we were playing fast and then my defense isn’t as good. So, it’s kind of a liability for my team. So, just got to get a second to breathe.”

It’s very understandable for any athlete who hasn’t formally competed in a month in a high-motor sport like basketball to need a second to catch their breath after hitting the gas to compete, even someone as talented as Clark.
Her explanation of needed a quick break after such a long break is pretty great, as it shows that even the most talented players have human moments.
