The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill recently opened up about the possibility of playing James Bond in the future.
Speaking in a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show, Henry Cavill discussed his potential as the next James Bond, a role he’s been associated with for years.
His character in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Gus March-Phillipps, was even a real-life inspiration for Bond’s creation.
When asked if he still envisions himself playing 007 in the future, Cavill expressed uncertainty due to his age, as he’s now 40. However, he’s keeping his options open and not completely dismissing the possibility.
He added, “The same information you have. Maybe I’m too old now. Maybe I’m not. It’s up to Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson, and we’ll see what their plans are.”
When questioned about whether portraying March-Phillips improved his chances, He remarked, “Yeah, it seems like a good first step, right?”
Henry Cavill came very close to playing the role of James Bond during the casting process for Casino Royale in 2006.
He was a serious contender for the role but ultimately lost out to Daniel Craig, who became synonymous with the iconic spy character.
Cavill’s character in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the founder of the British Army’s precursor of the Special Air Service (SAS), is believed to have influenced the creation of James Bond.
Ian Fleming, the renowned author, drew inspiration from real-life figures like March-Phillipps when crafting his iconic spy novels post-World War II.
They were instrumental in taking down the Nazis and setting the stage for modern black ops.
Henry Cavill stars alongside Alan Ritchson, Eiza González and Henry Golding in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is set to release in theatres on April 19, 2024.
