The highly anticipated Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill has received an exciting filming update.
Chad Stahelski is set to helm the project, which has been in the pipeline for a long time, but there has been a dearth of updates about the development status of it until now.
In a recent interview with Collider Stahelski provided a promising filming update on the upcoming Highlander reboot.
The director said, “We start shooting in January in Scotland, that’s why I go right after I leave. I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout.”
Described as ‘John Wick with swords’ the film is one of the highly awaited projects from John Wick director.
Stahelski further said, “I’ll keep it to the core. Most audiences, I’ll use the gun analogy, most of what you know about gunfights or car chases, because most of us don’t get involved in gun fights, or car chases, or sword fights, we learn through movies.
He also added,” And what those movies show you is about 95% bullshit. You don’t fight 50 guys with your bare hands and then walk away, but it’s fun. It’s wish fulfillment. So John Wick, we know it’s a cartoon — I know it’s not — but we also have fun with it.”
“ But we do tactical reloads, we try to do fire manipulations, stuff like the professionals do, the military do. But then we have fun with it, you know? Sword work is very much the same.”
As revealed, filming for the reboot is set to begin in Q1 of 2025 in Scotland, with a release window in 2026. The shooting locations will also include Italy and Hong Kong.
Sword training for the movie began earlier this year, as Henry Cavill hinted during a press event.
Cavill teased, “If you’ve seen me wield a sword before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Although plot details of the reboot remain totally under wraps, Henry Cavill is set to play Connor MacLeod, a centuries-old immortal known as a Highlander, who must fight other immortals in an event known as the Gathering.
Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot is expected to arrive in theatres sometime in 2026.
