James Gunn Still Has an Opportunity to Bring Henry Cavill to the DCU - as the Strongest Version of Superman

The original DCEU was created because Warner Bros., the company that owns the rights to DC Comics characters, wanted to make its own version of the MCU after seeing how successful Disney’s MCU was. Though it had a lot of potential, attracted big stars, and made some excellent movies, the DCEU was doomed to fail before it had a chance to flourish because there were simply too many poor choices and misguided decisions made along the way.

James Gunn was then summoned. James Gunn chose to start over and establish a new fictitious universe called DCU when he took over the DCEU, which was in terrible disarray and the first major DCU film is going to be his Superman, which will introduce David Corenswet in the role.

This is notable because among the above-mentioned big stars of the DCEU was Henry Cavill, who played Superman before Gunn replaced him. Many fans still want to see Cavill back in the costume of the Man of Steel, and we think that there is a chance for that to happen, if Gunn wants to do it.

This article is actually our theory on the DCU Superman and a theory on how Gunn could bring Cavill back. We don’t know if it will happen, and we haven’t heard any rumors, but this is certainly an elegant way to do it if the DCU head wants to do it. So, what are we talking about?

Well, knowing that the DCU is going to have a multiversal nature at one point – a prime example of that is the still-planned Black Superman movie – will open up the possibility of there being more than one Superman in the DCU. Of course, Corenswet is going to be the main one, but we don’t see a reason why other variants of the character couldn’t appear and there is no reason why Cavill couldn’t be one of them, right?

In fact, we think that James Gunn could bring Henry Cavill back in the form of the strongest version of the character, either as the Thought Machine known as Cosmic Armor Superman or as the overpowered version known as Superman One Million. Cosmic Armor Superman isn’t technically a proper Superman, but a god-level Thought Machine and the strongest iteration of the character of all times, which would open up a way to include him more easily – as he wouldn’t technically be a “second Superman” – but that could also be a problem at the same time.

At the same time, Superman One Million is an actual Superman who spent 15,000 years inside the sun and became overpowered. This one would be harder to integrate into the DCU as there is no obvious reason why he would suddenly appear, but he would actually be a second Superman.
