I am excited about the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe can do a version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. DC is going through a major transition period, moving on from the old DC Extended Universe to James Gunn’s new DC Universe. I thought Gunn’s work at Marvel was fantastic, leading to some of the best MCU movies with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Likewise, I have enjoyed his work at DC with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, which makes me very excited about his new DCU.
However, I am sad to see some of my favorite DCEU actors go. I understand that the DCU needs to separate itself from the DCEU after many years of controversies and an awful final year of DCEU releases at the box office. With DC letting go of great talent, I’m sure the MCU could use some of the DCEU’s biggest stars, keeping them in the superhero game. Two of DC’s most popular recent actors are Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, and I think future MCU movies could include both, with a chance for Marvel’s version of Batman V Superman.
Henry Cavill’s Wolverine & Ben Affleck’s Daredevil Exist In The MCU Multiverse
The DCEU Stars Have Played Marvel Heroes
Cavill and Affleck’s most famous superhero roles come from the DCEU. Cavill started the shared universe in 2013 with Man of Steel, though the actor would spend years away from the franchise as executives put his Superman on the back burner. As for Affleck, the star played Batman in the DCEU. Due to multiple behind-the-scenes reasons, Affleck never got to lead a Batman solo movie. The duo first worked together in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where they fought. Then, the two teamed up with other heroes in 2017’s Justice League.
While I was not a fan of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I liked seeing Cavill and Affleck together, and the MCU could give me that again. Before joining DC as Batman, Affleck played Matt Murdock in the non-MCU Daredevil movie back in 2003. This year, Deadpool & Wolverine saw Cavill join the MCU as a Wolverine variant, appearing in an exciting cameo opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. Though Jennifer Garner’s Elektra claimed that Affleck’s Daredevil was dead in the movie, the multiverse allows for Affleck to come back as a Daredevil variant and fight Cavill’s Wolverine in the MCU.
Does Wolverine Vs Daredevil Have Any Comics Precedence?
Affleck’s MCU Fight With Cavill Would Be Quite Bloody
The MCU could make its own version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by taking a page from Marvel Comics. Earlier this year, Daredevil and Wolverine had quite a bloody fight. The encounter happened in the Daredevil run that started in 2023, in Daredevil #7, where Matt Murdock fought Wolverine after he became possessed by one of the Seven Deadly Sins — Wrath, of course. What then ensued was one hell of a fight that took up most of the issue. At the end of it, Wolverine is victorious, with Daredevil admitting he is “Too strong. Too tough. Too vicious.”
If the MCU were to get Cavill’s Wolverine and Affleck’s Daredevil together, a similar fight scene would be sure to have fans cheering in theaters. Based on the comic book’s outcome, Cavill’s Wolverine would most likely also end up being the winner if he fought with Affleck’s Daredevil, which would be a nice flip on their DCEU dynamic. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck’s Batman was ultimately the winner of his fight with Cavill’s Superman, using gadgets and Kryptonite to achieve the result. In the MCU, the strongest character of the two could finally win.
Marvel, I’m Begging, Please Give Us Cavill Wolverine V Affleck Daredevil
I Know The Perfect Movie For It To Happen
I think having Cavill’s Wolverine fight Affleck’s is too good of an opportunity for Marvel to pass on. It’s not every day that an MCU movie can feature two of DC’s most popular actors as Marvel heroes. The positive reaction to Deadpool & Wolverine‘s joke regarding how “the studio down the street” treated Cavill and how Marvel would treat him better shows that fans would get a kick out of the meta moment of having Cavill and Affleck share the screen in the MCU. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool could even be involved somehow to provide hilarious commentary on the fight.
I don’t think Cavill will become the MCU’s Wolverine, as his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo was most likely a nod to fans like John Krasinki’s Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, due to the positive reaction from fans, I think Marvel could consider bringing the Cavillerine back for Avengers: Secret Wars. The movie will feature several MCU and multiverse characters, making it the perfect place for a quick meeting and fight between Henry Cavill‘s Wolverine and Ben Affleck‘s Daredevil, giving the MCU its Batman V Superman.
