Gold medal winner forced to sleep in park due to 'bad' Olympic village conditions

The 2024 Paris Olympics are shaping up to be one of the most unusual in history, with controversies emerging almost daily and tarnishing the reputation of the world’s premier athletic event.

The latest controversy involves Italian Gold Medalist swimmer Thomas Ceccon, who was recently seen sleeping near a park bench.

This comes just days after Ceccon won Gold in the Men’s 100m backstroke and Bronze in the Men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

The 23-year-old swimmer recently gained headlines for his charming and handsome looks during the medal ceremony.

Unfortunately, just a week after his medal victory, the Olympic champion was forced to abandon the Olympic Village due to unacceptable living conditions..

Wearing Italy-crested shorts, Ceccon was seen sleeping in a park.

Saudi Arabian rower Husein Alireza shared a photo of him napping on a white towel under a tree.

Ceccon joined athletes like Coco Gauff, Ariarne Titmus, and Assia Touati in criticizing the Olympic Village facilities.

On Wednesday, Ceccon narrowly missed winning another gold, failing to qualify for the 200m backstroke final.

Reflecting on his loss, the Italian cited his troubling experience at the village as a factor.

Ceccon said, “There is no air conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad.

“Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or excuse; it’s the reality of what perhaps not everyone knows.”

He further expressed his furstation,”I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon.”

Olympics organizers thought the design of the 2,807 “self-cooling” apartments would eliminate the need for air conditioning, but they have been proven wrong.

The Paris Olympics organizing committee chose cardboard beds primarily for sustainability. Both the mattresses and the cardboard frames are fully recyclable, with the bed bases made from recycled cardboard.
