Cardi B has teased a new song that features a Janet Jackson sample.

On July 1, the ‘WAP’ rapper took to Instagram, where she posted a video snippet of a new song to her Instagram Stories. Sampling Janet Jackson’s ‘Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun)’, the snippet sees Cardi trade in her usual energetic rap verses for subdued singing: “I hope that you on your way / Crazy ’bout you / Waiting on you, can’t wait to sit on that face / Focused on you.”

She also wrote: ‘Y’all like this vibe for ‘CB2’?”

The snippet has since expired from Cardi B’s stories, but you can see a recording of it on X below.

‘CB2’ is the working title for Cardi B’s long-awaited sophomore album. While the album has yet to be announced officially, – and doesn’t have a release date in sight – Cardi has been teasing for some time now that she’s been hard at work on the project, and has teased that it will come out at some point this year.

In the years since releasing her debut album, Cardi has kept busy with a selection of singles, most notably ‘Please Me’ with Bruno Mars in 2019, ‘Up’ in 2021 and ‘WAP’ in 2020 with Megan Thee Stallion.

Cardi B’s 2018 debut album ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ scored a four-star review from NME, with Nick Levine writing: “This is a remarkably confident and compelling debut from a superstar who’s put in the graft. “My little 15 minutes lasting long as hell, huh?” she boasts nonchalantly on final track ‘I Do’. On this evidence, it’s going to last a lot longer yet.”

Cardi B has stressed that she’ll “never turn Republican” despite criticising President Joe Biden and saying she might not vote for him in the upcoming election, or anyone at all.

The rapper had pledged her support to Biden in the past, having interviewed him and endorsed him in the 2020 election. She also said that she had told him personally that if he wants people to vote for him “we don’t want no false promises.”

Explaining her decision to endorse him further, after initially supporting Bernie Sanders, she said: “It’s either, like, we go with Joe Biden or Donald Trump. I’d rather go with Joe Biden. I have spoken to Joe Biden before. I think he gets it. I don’t know if it’s sympathise, but I think that he understands what we want.

“I think he understands that what we want are simple things, you know what I’m saying? We’re not asking for much, we just asking for certain shit.”

She was even accused of becoming a political pawn for supporting Joe Biden by right-wing critics. “I never got payed a dollar from Biden I just wanted to get to know him and open my fans up to the importance of voting,” she said in response. She also suggested that God made Joe Biden president because Trump supporters were “out of control”.

However, Cardi said in May that her feelings on him had changed based on his stance on Palestine and his inaction over the economy.

“I feel like people got betrayed,” she told Rolling Stone. “It’s just like, ‘Damn, y’all not caring about nobody.’ Then, it really gets me upset that there is solutions to it. There is a solution. I know there’s a solution because you’re spending billions of dollars on any f*cking thing.”

Since then, a fan wrote on Twitter in relation to her recently teasing a new single: “She may have betrayed our country and turned Republican but at least she found a nice tune.”

Cardi replied to the tweet on Tuesday (June 2), writing: “I will never turn republican lol.”

“You might be forced to next year since you’re not voting and discouraging people from voting,” the fan snapped back.

Indeed, Cardi has also been critical of Republican candidate Donald Trump throughout the years, using her debut appearance as Saturday Night Live host in 2018 to make jokes at the then-president’s expense.

In another section called ‘What’s Up With That Coat’, Cardi B and Jimmy Fallon made fun of Trump, with the rapper declaring: “It looks like they put his butt implants on the wrong side.”

Earlier this week, Cardi suggested she had a new song that features a Janet Jackson sample from her forthcoming second album, whose working title is ‘CB2’.

While the album has yet to be announced officially, – and doesn’t have a release date in sight – Cardi has been teasing for some time now that she’s been hard at work on the project, and has teased that it will come out at some point this year.
