Conor McGregor Announces No Return This Year, Reveals Perfect Date and Opponent For Epic UFC Comeback
Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor has been out of action since July 2021. That’s when he suffered that nasty leg break against Dustin Poirier. Since then, it has been a rollercoaster of “will he, won’t he” speculation. Now, it looks like fans will have to hold their horses on that Conor McGregor comeback.
‘The Notorious’ just dropped a bombshell that’s sure to disappoint his fans worldwide. He was present at the boxing event in London, where he spilled the beans. No octagon action for him this year. He is eyeing 2025 for his grand return.
“[Michael Chandler] got re-matched. It is what it is… Whenever [my return] is and wherever it is, I will be 100 percent ready… It does not matter [who I fight]. As long as I can get back,” said McGregor, talking to Ariel Helwani.
But there’s more! The Irish superstar has his sights set on a specific dance partner, and it is none other than Michael Chandler. Conor McGregor wished ‘Iron’ luck on his fight against Charles Oliveira and hoped to rebook their fight.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is not just sitting around. He has been hitting the gym hard. Dana White also has been playing it cool as he hinted at positive talks but kept his cards close to his chest.
Charles Oliveira Reveals The Reason For Choosing To Fight Conor McGregor Over A Title Shot
Charles Oliveira has been on quite the rollercoaster lately. He lost his belt on the scales, reclaimed it, then lost it again to Islam Makhachev. But now, the Brazilian fighter has his sights set on a different kind of gold. The former lightweight champ is eyeing a showdown with none other than Conor McGregor.
Now, fans would think that he would be chomping at the bit for another title shot. But nope! Oliveira has other plans, and he is after that ‘red panty night’. Oliveira dropped a bombshell in a recent chat with Laerte Viana.
“Can you guarantee that if I beat Conor, I’ll be next in line? Because anyways the title fight will be between Tsarukyan and Islam, so I’ll have to wait anyways. So why not? Make a lot of money with Conor.”
But before Oliveira can chase that McGregor pot of gold, he’s got a date with Michael Chandler at UFC 309. The duo had fought before, and ‘Do Bronx’ came out on top. And this time around, he would hope to do the same.
Conor McGregor Speaks From Experience, Urges Anthony Joshua To Keep Fighting
Conor McGregor and Anthony Joshua
Conor McGregor knows a thing or two about comebacks. He’s had his fair share of setbacks in the octagon. Remember the Khabib Nurmagomedov fight? Or the Nate Diaz fight? But he’s always managed to bounce back, at least in terms of popularity and paydays.
The Irish MMA superstar has some words of wisdom for Anthony Joshua after his shocking loss to Daniel Dubois. In a recent interview, McGregor didn’t mince words. He declared that one loss did not define what ‘AJ’ was and urged him to continue.
“AJ is number one… he’s a legend forever…It’s only boxing. You get caught, you catch someone. Of course he can come back!” said McGregor via The Stomping Ground YT.
Conor McGregor himself is on the cusp of coming back. After being away from the Octagon for over three years, he is planning to make a comeback soon. His last fight ended in a loss to Dustin Poirier. But he still is willing to come back and take what he believes is his.
McGregor’s pep talk isn’t just about Anthony Joshua, though. It’s a window into the fighter’s mentality. They feel the pain of defeat just like anyone else. Maybe even more so. But these guys don’t just shrug off losses. They use them as fuel!
