Conor McGregor Avoids Jail Time, Receives Suspended Sentence And 2-Year Driving Ban For Dangerous Driving
Conor McGregor
The notorious bad boy of the UFC has once again dodged a knockout blow. This time, it wasn’t in the octagon but in an Irish courtroom. Conor McGregor, the former two-division champion, narrowly escaped jail time for a dangerous driving incident. In March 2022, McGregor was caught speeding and running a red light in Ireland. He nearly caused a collision, giving onlookers a different kind of heart-pounding performance.
On Wednesday, the fighter settled his case with authorities. McGregor accepted a five-month suspended sentence and agreed to pay a €5,000 fine. He also promised to keep the peace for two years. Furthermore, the court also handed McGregor a two-year driving ban.
Judge David McHugh wasn’t pulling any punches, as he even considered throwing the book at him with jail time. But McGregor’s legal team managed to talk their way out of that corner. This isn’t McGregor’s first rodeo with traffic violations. In 2018, he got a six-month ban and a $1,000 fine for speeding.
The Irish fighter hasn’t competed since his leg-shattering bout with Dustin Poirier in 2021. He was supposed to make a comeback earlier this year, but a toe injury put a hamper on those plans. Now, McGregor is eyeing a return before the end of the year. Rumors are that UFC 310 is set for his comeback to the Octagon.
Conor McGregor Believes He Is Better Now Compared To Fight Against Eddie Alvarez
McGregor, the UFC’s notorious showman, is at it again with his signature bravado. His bold persona and antics have garnered him the attention and admiration of millions. As such, the Irish fighter recently proclaimed to be even better than his previous self.
McGregor took to social media to declare that he was even better now. He seemed to be comparing himself to his performance against Eddie Alvarez in 2016. That fight saw McGregor become the first-ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion.
A lot has happened since then, and McGregor’s career has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows. He’s faced defeats, injuries, and even legal troubles outside the octagon. One thing’s for sure, though: ‘The Notorious’ knows how to keep people talking. His claim comes as he’s eyeing a return to the UFC after a long hiatus. The MMA world will be watching with bated breath whether he will defend this statement or just crumble to Michael Chandler’s pressure.
