Dana White Responds To Oscar De La Hoya Attending The UFC 306 Event – “Ain’t Get It From Me”
Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya
Dana White has found himself in yet another verbal sparring match. This time, his opponent is none other than boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya. It all started when De La Hoya took a jab at Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight. The Golden Boy claimed he’d be attending UFC 306 instead of watching Canelo’s “snooze fest.”
The UFC CEO fired back in his signature style. He quipped about De La Hoya’s supposed UFC tickets and wondered where he got them from. White washed his hands off of providing tickets to his archrival.
“Listen, I don’t know where he is getting his tickets from. He ain’t get it from me. I don’t know if he is coming with Sheik Turki or what his deal is,” said White via Grind City Media.
White also defended Canelo Alvarez from De La Hoya’s criticism. He had said that Canelo vs. Edgar Berlanga would be a ‘snoozefest.’ The UFC CEO praised the Mexican boxer’s impact on combat sports and revealed that Canelo was a big part of UFC 306’s creative plan.
Dana White Talks About Canelo Alvarez Fighting On The Same Date As UFC 306
The UFC CEO had quite a lot to say about Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight on Mexican Independence Day. The same night, UFC 306 will light up the Sphere. As expensive as the Sphere card has been, White has stayed respectful of other combat sports events.
During the UFC 304 press conference, White acknowledged the significance of the date for Canelo. He believed that it was obvious that other Mexicans from boxing would definitely want to fight at the Mexican Independence Day.
“To be honest, I didn’t know what they were going to do. But it’s Mexican Independence Day, so you have to assume there were probably going to be other Mexicans fighting that night besides ours. Like I said yesterday, it is what it is. …Canelo is one of those guys I respect,” said White.
White seemed pretty relaxed about the situation. He’d previously suggested that Canelo’s camp, led by Al Haymon, swooped in and took the date before the UFC could secure it. But Dana White has embraced this competition. Only one week remains till the Mexican Independence Day. Whether one of these events will be overshadowed by the other remains to be seen.
