“He’s Russian-Muslim…why’d you fight that guy?” New York comedian goes VIRAL for joking about UFC champ Islam Makhachev
The rigor and discipline of the Dagestani fighters is a clear handicap for most of the UFC roster. A comedy gold sketch hints as much, describing Islam Makhachev.
Islam Makhachev comes up in a comedy skit
Dagestani lightweight phenom and current champ Islam Makhachev is growing out his own legend. With a wrestle-heavy attire, Makhachev is equally potent on the ground and outboxing opponents. The Team Khabib standout is also as dangerous off the field, maintaining his rigor and strength. Then why would anybody in their right mind contest him for the gold? A comedian asked the very same thing.
Comedian Alvin Kuai, a Yorker, is infamous at his regular laughing grounds at the Comedy Cellar and other clubs. Kuai was once a prime feature on Amazon Prime, Fubo TV, and Sirius XM. He tours the country in various comedy clubs, and he also focuses on what is happening on SiriusXM Fight Nation channel and those like Islam Makhachev. Here’s what he quipped in one of his stand-up skits:
“I love that sh*t, I love UFC man…There’s this one fighter in the UFC. His name is Islam Makhachev. He’s a champion right now [so] — yeah, bro… He’s also a Russian-Muslim which…[like] why’d you fight that guy? Are you serious, that’s like the scariest nationality and the most disciplined religion…Dude I’ll fight like French Mormom…like a Canadian scientologist…”

Makhachev beat Charles Oliveira to win the belt. He outdid the submissions specialist in quite a feat. He also got a solid test against Dustin Poirier despite being a 6-1 favorite. Makhachev snagged a D’arce choke submission win at the 2:42 mark of R5. In the middle, he halted back-to-back dual-champ bid attempts by Alexander Volkanovski (here’s Kuai looking at Volk for his gusto…).
That’s not to mean that the Russian isn’t light-hearted when need be. A longtime Khabib Nurmagomedov training partner and arguably still the best pound-for-pound, Makhachev is sometimes unintentionally funny.
Khabib’s interactions and teases on friend Daniel Cormier are comedy gold for the MMA clique. But in fighting, he maintains the P4P mettle with zeal. The comedic skit isn’t wrong in recognizing the dreadlock in facing him. As such, the skit has gotten many responses.
Fans react to accurate comedy snip describing Islam Makhachev
Makhachev, 32, and DC have had numerous hilarious interactions over the years. As did he and Khabib; him trying to toss a UFC Eurasia reporter was funny as hell. The straight shooter has had his fun with Oliveira, Dan Hooker, and others as well. The champion battling a kangaroo seriously still does the rounds on TikTok and Reddit.
Fans react to apt take on Islam Makhachev’s prowess of creating shock upsets
Islam Makhachev tossing hoops with a basketball in hand along with his friends is a memorable one. His trotting around his bike as an athlete ambassador in adverts for the Timex 50mm UFC Rumble during UFC 302 also went viral. But the Eagles MMA southpaw is also a devout Muslim. This became apparent when he scuffled with Poirier during the UFC 302 Pre-fight conference.
Dagestanis are built differently in rigor than other devout Muslims, anyway. That, his textbook wrestling and pound-for-pound worth pounding, makes him dangerous indeed. Hence, here are a few responses to Alvin Kuai’s apt joke.
Many have subsequently liked the fact that Kuai keeps close attention on the fight sphere. His iteration of a “bam bam” pounding that a hard-trained Muslim fighter would do is also a reminder of how expletive it got at Khabib vs. Conor McGregor.
Additionally, the way Kuai puts it just fits the bill. But his wish for a French Mormon instead of a rigorous devout Muslim takes everyone off guard. Think if Benoit Saint-Denis of the Latter-Day Saints hunted him down. Here’s hoping Gerges St-Piere isn’t planning to become some brackish Scientologist!
