UFC fans fume as Terence Crawford is mistakenly labeled Kendrick Lamar on ESPN broadcast: ‘Fireable offense’
UFC fans have not taken too kindly to a major blunder during the broadcast of UFC 306 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Dana White held the event, also named ‘Noche UFC’ in honor of Mexican Independence Day, the first sporting event at Vegas’ futuristic Sphere.
The card featured seven fighters of Mexican heritage, spearheaded by Alexa Grasso who was defending her women’s flyweight title against legend Valentina Shevchenko.
But away from the spectacle in the octagon, viewers were stunned by a huge error during the broadcast of the event on Saturday night. With a host of stars from entertainment and sport in attendance – including the likes of Steve O, Jamal Murray, Bob Iger, Chris Brown, Andrew Schulz, and Rey Mysterio – one could be forgiven for not knowing a couple of famous faces.
However, ESPN mistook undefeated world champion Terence Crawford for rapper Kendrick Lamar, which sparked some fury, and laughter, from those watching at home.
Undefeated world champion Terence Crawford was in attendance during UFC’s historic event at Las Vegas’ The Sphere
Fans were stunned by the major blunder on ESPN, which saw Crawford mistaken for Kendrick Lamar
Lamar is a multiple time Grammy award-winning rapper who has enjoyed great success in 2024 thanks to his public beef with Drake
The rapper was recently announced as the headline act for the Super Bowl LIX on February 9
Fans were quick to react on social media, with one joking that the error was worthy of the sack.
‘Calling bud Crawford [Kendrick Lamar] is crazy,’ they wrote on X. ‘Fireable offense.’
Crawford was sat cageside next to Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh.
The 36-year-old was cageside at The Sphere instead of being than across the road at the T-Mobile Arena where rival Canelo Alvarez won every round against Edgar Berlanga to retain his super-middleweight world titles.
In fact, as the camera panned to Crawford and Alalshikh, the Saudi chief mouthed ‘Canelo’ to the camera, appearing to indicate that he was still hoping to make the huge fight between the pair next year.
