UFC legend has ‘inside scoop’ on new Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler date and location

MMA icon Chael Sonnen claims the UFC is planning to stage Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler in 2025.

The rivals were initially set to square off on June 29 at UFC 303 in a welterweight main event scrap.

However, McGregor suffered a broken toe in sparring, which forced him to pull out of the contest.

The UFC are now in the process of rebooking the fight, with company president, Dana White, recently teasing some imminent news on the long-awaited clash.

Chandler and McGregor have both made it clear that they are willing to duke it out in December but Sonnen claims the UFC have other ideas.

“I think that Conor is sincere that he would like to fight 170-pounds, T-Mobile Arena, December 2024 opposite of Michael Chandler under the unified rules of the Mixed Martial Arts. I believe him,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.

“An inside scoop that I’m getting is that the UFC wants all of those same things they just want it in January in California.

“Who you gonna believe? I’m sharing what I believe, but that sure sounds close, that sounds like we’re real close here.”

Sonnen’s ‘inside scoop’ is backed up by White’s insistence that McGregor vs Chandler won’t take place this year.

The UFC boss told assembled media last month: “We talked, we didn’t meet up but we talked.

“He wants to fight so we will figure it out. Not this year, he won’t fight this year.”

McGregor didn’t take too kindly to White’s comments and took to social media to respond: “Ah Dana. December is the date! Bring the calendar year home with a winning event!

“Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare.

“December. Tell Dana and UFC we want December! We deserve December.”

A few days later, McGregor followed up his post with another suggesting he had convinced White to let him fight at the back end of this year.

He wrote: “THE UFC LOVE AND WANT ME FOR DECEMBER! I AM READY.”

Chandler replied two hours later by agreeing to McGregor’s proposal.

He tweeted: “December it is.” However, nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing.
