Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dana White
Khabib Nurmagomedov may have long past his time to fight in the UFC, yet any update from his side sends the fans into a nutshell. While his last bout came back in 2020 against Justin Gaethje, people wonder if he would ever make a comeback into the octagon. However, his recent comments on rejecting UFC CEO Dan White’s generous offer settles the dust on his potential return.
In a recent X post from MMA Censored, Khabib revealed how White tried to get him back by offering a whopping $100 million. However, ‘The Eagle’ denied the offer because he loved his Dagestani traditions and didn’t need much money to live a happy life. His statement read,
“In Russia, if people have little things they are happy, people do not make $5000-10,000 a month” Khabib added, “Where I am from, Dagestan, we don’t need much. Dana was asking me ‘bro why didn’t you ever ask me how much I was gonna pay you to come back? It doesn’t matter if you want $100 Million dollars I don’t care’ you know why? Because I am from Dagestan and we are traditional”
Khabib, later on, explained that he would love to spend more time with his family and inspire other people around him. He said,
“Talking to our mothers is everything to us, I don’t want to play political games, I just want to help people, inspire people, spend time with my family, with my mother, with my children and just be a good person. That is my goal.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov Recalls His Father’s Advice When He Had Tough Time In The UFC
There’s absolutely no doubt that Khabib was certainly the most competent fighter in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and his undefeated record speaks for itself. However, between 2014 and 2016, ‘The Eagle’ faced a dilemma, wondering if his time in MMA was up since his career saw a series of setbacks in the form of injuries.
In a recent interview with Inspire Me, Khabib recalled the entire period and his thoughts of quitting the UFC. But his father’s wisdom certainly brought him back, and ‘The Eagle’ registered his name with golden letters in the history of sports. He said,
“It was a very hard time and I remember I was talking with my father, ‘maybe this is a signal from God you have to stop’. He told me you can not give up. When you have some test you have to show your toughness if you’re tough. If you’re not tough you can just give up, and that’s it.”
After winning the bout against Rafael dos Anjos on April 19, 2014, Khabib was slated to fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 178. However, his knee injury restricted him from getting into another bout until November 12, 2016, against Michael Johnson.
His father’s valuable advice to not give up certainly gave him a great boost as he went on to record an undefeated record. Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retired from MMA on March 19, 2021. Since then, fans have been hoping he will ever make a comeback in the UFC octagon.
