Caitlin Clark fans are not taking WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes’ polarizing comments about the Indiana Fever star sitting down.
Swoopes recently drew the ire of Clark fans with her rather questionable take on the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. The Hall of Famer claimed that the Fever could make the playoffs without Clark, which Swoopes believed wasn’t the case with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
Clark fans were not happy with Swoopes and they expressed their frustrations on on X.
“Sheryl Swoopes is a legend… she shouldn’t try to diminish her own career by being a hater,” said one fan.

The 5th draft pick that year was Lou
Lopez Sénéchal, apparently Sheryl Swoopes didn't she's still on the Dallas Wings. The 5th draft the year prior was Nyara Sabally, she's also on the New York Liberty. One would think Sheryl would do research before saying dumb things. pic.twitter.com/pTcQIFLdmW

One fan took it even further by questioning Swoopes’ intelligence.
“At first I thought Sheryl Swoopes was a hater but it’s actually giving cognitive impairment,” the fan wrote.

It’s hard to argue against how valuable Clark is to the Fever. The team finished with six or fewer wins in each season from 2020 to 2022.
Indiana improved to 13-27 last season after they drafted Aliyah Boston with the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. However, the team was still bad enough to be in the position to draft Clark this year.
Clark’s 8.2 assists per game through the Olympic break not only lead the Fever, but the WNBA as a whole. That’s on top of her being the Fever’s top scorer averaging 17.1 points per game through 26 contests. Even with Clark, the Fever aren’t exactly a top team with an 11-15 record to start August.
Swoopes’ claim that the league’s primary playmaker isn’t integral to her team’s relatively modest success has fans calling her a straight “hater.” As a result, fans have even started to uncover Swoopes’ scandalous past in the process.
