Charles Oliveira may fight Alexander Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski and Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion, is not one to shy away from a challenge. In fact, he seems to thrive on them. ‘Do Bronx’ is now hinting at the possibility of taking on Alexander Volkanovski, the former UFC featherweight champion. If this matchup comes to fruition, it could be a super fight that has MMA fans buzzing with excitement.

Oliveira, known for his incredible jiu-jitsu skills and relentless pressure, has faced some tough competition in the UFC. In his last five outings, he has gone 3-2, with his most recent fight ending in a split-decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan. Despite this setback, Oliveira remains one of the most dangerous fighters in the lightweight division. So, when asked about the prospect of fighting Volkanovski, he didn’t hesitate to express his enthusiasm.

“Why not? It would be a great honor. A great fighter, a great name. So why not?… Waiting to see what the UFC will bring for us,” said Oliveira via Instagram.

Volkanovski, on the other hand, has had a rough patch lately. “The Great” has suffered back-to-back knockout losses. His most recent defeat came at UFC 298, where he was knocked out cold in the second round by rising star Ilia Topuria.

If the Oliveira vs. Volkanovski fight does happen, it will likely take place at 155 pounds. This is a weight class that has proven to be a tough nut to crack for Volkanovski. He’s currently 0-2 at 155 pounds, with one of those losses coming via knockout.

Charles Oliveira Once Warned Alexander Volkanovski Against Moving Up To 155 lb Division

Charles Oliveira is known for his incredible grappling skills and his ability to finish fights in spectacular fashion. But beyond his physical prowess, Oliveira also possesses the wisdom of a seasoned veteran. Back in 2022, he offered some candid advice to Alexander Volkanovski, who was been toying with the idea of moving up to the lightweight division.

Oliveira’s message to Volkanovski was simple. Proceed with caution. Moving up to 155 pounds is no walk in the park, even for a fighter as accomplished as Volkanovski. It’s a challenge that ‘Do Bronx‘ himself knows all too well, having faced the division’s best and coming out on top most of the time.

“He is a very tough guy. I know he has made history at 145 pounds, but everybody who thinks about moving up to 155 has to think very well because it’s a very, very hard division,” said Oliveira via The Schmo.

It’s a fair warning from a fighter who’s been there, done that, and got the scars to prove it. Oliveira’s advice is rooted in the reality of what it means to compete at 155 pounds. The division is stacked with some of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC. And Oliveira’s warning was sound. Volkanovksi stepped into the lion’s den at 155lbs, fighting twice. Both times, ‘The Great’ had to taste defeat and return empty-handed back to his own division.
