Former Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez To Be Sentenced Next Month Following No-Contest Plea In Attempted Murder Case
Cain Velasquez
Cain Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion known for his skill in the octagon, is now facing a different kind of fight. His journey from the octagon to the courtroom has been nothing short of dramatic.
Back in February 2022, Velasquez found himself in hot water. He wasn’t grappling with an opponent in the cage but with the law. The charge was for attempted murder, among others. Fast forward to today, and he is looking at a sentencing date set for October 18, according to MMA Fighting. Cain Velasquez took a plea deal and entered a no-contest plea. The sentencing options range from probation to life in prison.
The backstory is where this tale takes a dark turn. Cain Velasquez was arrested after an 11-mile car chase. His target was a man accused of molesting Velasquez’s son. During the chase, shots were fired from his .40-caliber handgun. His aim was off, though, as he hit the wrong guy, the alleged molester’s stepfather.
The District Attorney didn’t mince words, calling Velasquez a wannabe “judge, jury, and executioner.” Furthermore, his phone revealed some interesting searches. “S*xual assault cases where victims’ family retaliates” was one. Since his release on bail, Velasquez has been back at American Kickboxing Academy.
Cain Velasquez Breaks Silence After Spending Time In Jail
Imagine going from the bright lights of the UFC octagon to the dim fluorescents of a jail cell. That’s exactly what happened to Cain Velasquez, the former heavyweight champion. His story took a dramatic turn in 2022, and now he’s finally speaking out.
Velasquez found himself behind bars for eight long months as he was accused of attempted murder. Now, Velasquez is out on bail, awaiting his 2024 trial. He’s breaking his silence about life in the slammer, and surprisingly, Velasquez found a silver lining in his confinement.
“We’re so blessed every day, and we’re so down on the dumbest things. When s*** gets taken away, you realize, ‘Oh, I had all this, I had all this.’ I had the opportunity to just leave when I wanted to. Leave in my car and go outside, look at something, look at nature. Have the opportunity to go look at something like that and appreciate the day,” said Velasquez via the JAXXON podcast.
Cain Velasquez faced a harsh reality check. His time in jail seems to have turned him into a bit of a philosopher. He’s all about appreciating the little things now. But let’s not forget the gravity of his situation. If convicted, Velasquez could face 20 years or more in prison.
