Caitlin Clark Just Revealed This SHOCKING Thing About Her Holiday | HO
Caitlin Clark is taking her Team USA snub as a blessing in disguise. She believes that the break was much needed because you can’t move forward without recharging your batteries. More importantly, she felt exhausted both emotionally and physically, making it crucial to take a break from the basketball court for a while. “Honestly, like, that’s the main reason I’m not doing it,” Clark said. “To be honest, I’m pretty mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. I’ve been competing for a year straight, and it takes a toll. I’ve been very fortunate to have so many great opportunities over the course of the last year.”
Unstoppable Caitlin Clark has been going 100 miles an hour for the last year. The sharp-shooting playmaker has been a whirlwind of talent, lifting women’s basketball to the forefront of sports in recent months. Her jaw-dropping, record-shattering performance on the court and humble demeanor off of it have quickly made her a fan favorite and a role model for young girls. Yet, despite her superhuman feats, the 22-year-old is only human, feeling the pressure and exhaustion of being in the relentless spotlight from time to time.
When Caitlin began her senior season at Iowa with an exhibition game against DePaul at the Crossover at Kinnick, attracting a record-breaking crowd of 55,669, she declared for the WNBA and was drafted by the Fever just weeks after competing in the NCAA National Championship game where Iowa lost to South Carolina. She was already in training camp preparing for her professional career. The sporting world was eager to see how Caitlin would fare in the WNBA, but the Fever’s hectic and grueling opening schedule of 11 games in 20 days resulted in a tough 2-9 start. Since then, Caitlin and the Fever have found their rhythm, winning nine of their last 15 games, bringing their record to 11-15 and securing seventh place in the playoff race.
After the WNBA All-Star game, where she recorded four points and ten assists, Caitlin said, “Honestly, I can’t wait to not touch a basketball for a while. I’ve shot too many times in the past year.” Despite her resilience and composure, Caitlin offered a reminder of her humanity. She reiterated, “I think it’s hard as a professional athlete because people don’t always realize I’m just like everyone else.” She emphasized that she’s the same human and goes around daily life the same way, doing all the things every one of us does, but the only difference is that she just plays basketball on top of that.
As of now, as the world gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Caitlin Clark is enjoying a well-deserved vacation. The WNBA rookie is spending the league’s Olympic break in Mexico with her boyfriend Connor McCaffrey and a couple of her Indiana Fever teammates. According to the New York Post, both McCaffrey and Clark have shared moments from their trip on their Instagram stories. McCaffrey posted a picture of himself and Clark flashing peace signs at the camera while relaxing on a seaside deck, while Clark shared a scenic photo of a boat’s bow pointed toward the horizon.
A lot of people find it insane to leave the basketball superstar off of Team USA, but sports journalist Jemele Hill noted that Caitlin Clark’s omission from the roster might actually benefit her. The Olympic break allows Clark to step away from the intense pressure she’s faced for the past six months. Hill wrote, “Honestly, Caitlin Clark not being on this year’s Olympic team is actually a good thing for her. In the span of weeks, she went from playing college ball to becoming a professional to having a grind of a schedule. A multi-week break probably isn’t the worst thing in the world. She will eventually make an Olympic team.” Hill’s point of view is spot-on. Now, Clark has taken her team close to the playoffs with her die-hard efforts, and she deserves to recharge and recollect herself to tackle the challenges ahead and lead her team further in the league.
Clark’s impact on Indiana has been incredible and unbelievable. The team was at its lowest rank before she joined. Last season, the Fever won only 14 matches, and they’ve already reached that mark this season, all thanks to Caitlin Clark. She bounced up the stairs to the interview podium after Saturday night’s WNBA All-Star game, exclaiming, “I’m on vacation!” Sitting down with a wide grin, she told the media, “All right, last time for a month, get your questions in.” Clark was giddy throughout the entire six-minute session, answering questions thoroughly and adding jokes. Despite her cheerful demeanor, she was focused on one thing: this was her final obligation before her first break from basketball in nearly a year. Though she didn’t reveal her vacation destination, she was excited about taking a break from the sport. “I honestly can’t wait to not touch a basketball for a while,” Clark said, laughing. “I’ve shot too many times in the past year.” After the session, she jumped out of her seat, wished everybody a nice month, and quickly made her way down the stairs.
Clark finally got a break, and it is well-deserved. She has been playing high-level basketball non-stop since September 2023 when her Iowa Hawkeyes began preparing for the 2023-24 college season. She went through five months of intense competition, ultimately reaching the 2024 National Championship game. Then, just a week later, Clark was drafted by the Fever. Less than a month after her last college game with the Hawkeyes, she was in training camp gearing up for her rookie season. Given her rising fame, she is easily recognized and constantly in the spotlight. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, it has been a relentless journey for the Hawkeye-turned-Fever star, and she knows she needs time to unwind.
The first half of the season has been emotionally draining for most of the Fever players. They faced increased scrutiny this season, with more fans and media than ever covering the Indiana team. The demanding opening schedule of 11 games in 20 days left the young team with minimal practice time, resulting in a rough 2-9 start. During that stretch, social media buzzed with criticism, analyzing the body language of Clark, her new teammates, and Coach Sides. There were calls for Sides to be fired, for trades, and for Clark to find a better situation. However, since that challenging start, the Fever have improved significantly, going 9-6 and reaching an 11-15 record at the break, putting them firmly in playoff contention, sitting in seventh place in the league.
After a grueling 26-game push, everybody needs a little bit of time to decompress. “These guys have enjoyed from 1 to 8,” Coach Sides said. “That start against the best teams in the league early back-to-backs, it was just tough. It was tough on them, it was tough on all of us, and just the expectations, that was another game changer. It’s just that they kept showing up, trying to get better even when we couldn’t practice. It was in video, just the resilience they’ve shown, I’m just so proud of them for that.”
Fever guard Lexi Hull mentioned in a TikTok that she and some teammates were headed to Mexico after their game against the Dallas Wings on Wednesday but didn’t specify who would be joining her. The only Fever player not taking a break is Christy Wallace, who is heading to the Olympics with Team Australia. Clark, along with Fever second-year center Aliyah Boston and seventh-year guard Kelsey Mitchell, had to wait a few more days before starting their vacation. They had All-Star duties in Phoenix through Saturday night, which concluded with Team WNBA’s 117-109 win over Team USA. “I am very excited, very excited, I will be resting,” Boston said following the game.
