Oleksandr Usyk can rightfully claim to be the very best heavyweight on the planet right now.

He was of course also the best cruiserweight on the planet, if not ever, having cleared out the division and pickcing up the undisputed title six years after he won an Olympic Gold in 2012.

In just six more years since moving up to the banner division, the Ukrainian managed to enact a full takeover by beating the likes of Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua twice in back-to-back fights, Daniel Dubois and Tyson Fury.

The most recent of those against ‘The Gypsy King’ saw him add the WBC, Lineal and Ring Magazine titles to the WBO, WBA and IBF belts he already had.

Usyk barely appeared hurt in any of those fights let alone put down, though he did hit the canvas during his fight with Dubois following what was ruled to be an illegal low blow.

He has since had to surrender the IBF belt because rather than fight mandatories he is going into a rematch with Fury in December out in Saudi Arabia. Both boxers have promised to be better the second time around.

Ahead of that, the southpaw technician spoke to 3KDR and compared Fury and Joshua to sparkling and still water.

“Anthony Joshua is like classic boxing, yeh, greedy belly my friend Tyson Fury, listen, it’s like just water, and sparkling. When you open just water, it’s good, if you check sparkling it’s ‘pffft.’ Sparking water is Tyson Fury, still water is Anthony Joshua. Fury has arms like two meters, like a rope. I think be careful, Oleksandr, hands here, OK, good defence.”

Where ‘AJ’ is a solid stand-up heavyweight with thudding shots and good combinations, Fury has made a name for himself by moving like a much smaller man around the ring despite his huge frame. His feints and herky-jerky movement had baffled many opponents before he came up against Usyk.

A fight between the two Brits remains high on the lists of fans, but all will depend on how they fare later this year, with Anthony Joshua in against Daniel Dubois on September 21.
