Gervonta Davis vs Vasyl Lomachenko negotiations remain ongoing, despite unserious claims to the contrary.

Following Tank’s KO win over Frank Martin last month, representatives for him and Loma began talks to stage a WBA and IBF lightweight world title unification fight.

The plan is to target the bout for November.

These negotiations are still progressing at present and will understandably take time given the cross-promotional nature of the contest.

Davis is represented by Al Haymon’s PBC and fights on Amazon Prime Video whereas Lomachenko is represented by Bob Arum’s Top Rank and fights on ESPN.

On Saturday night in another fight promoted by Arum’s Top Rank, Shakur Stevenson beat Artem Harutyunyan to defend his WBC lightweight crown.

After this fight, Davis’ co-trainer Kenny Ellis caused a stir with a jokey post on social media.

He wrote: “Breaking news, Vasyl Lomachenko said he will step aside and let Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson this fall and he’ll fight the winner in early 2025.”

However, many fans did not pick up on the unserious nature of Ellis’ post and took him seriously.

This then prompted a reply from Arum who told BoxingScene: “These guys make up s***.”

Ellis has now clarified that he was not being serious.

He said on Monday: “Where is the sense of humour? I was just joking. Tank vs Loma is still on.”

If Davis vs Lomachenko does come to fruition, it will be a fight fans have been hoping for for several years.

Back in 2017 when Davis won his first world title he was boxing at super-featherweight.

Lomachenko was the king of that division at the time.

Despite calls for a unification bout to happen then, Tank was steered in a different direction.

This was likely a wise move given that Loma was in his prime at that time while Davis was just 21 years old and the youngest champion in the entire sport.

Now, Lomachenko has been beaten twice since – by Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney – and is 36 years of age.
