Raven Symone SHOCKS Oprah By Exposing Her In NEW INTERVIEW | Oprah Is SCARED (video)

In an insightful interview on VH1’s “Behind the Music,” Toni openly discussed the challenging bankruptcy situation and its reception by both the public and fellow celebrities. Concurrently, during a period of financial struggles, Toni made an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” While expecting typical questions about her current situation, Toni was caught off guard by Oprah’s unexpectedly tough line of questioning, leaving her in a state of disbelief.

“I read that you were upset about stories that your overspending caused this.”

During this interview, viewers perceived Oprah’s questions as indirect criticism of Toni’s spending habits, with the implication that Toni’s extravagant expenditures were a significant factor in her bankruptcy. In response to Oprah’s perceived rudeness, Toni replied, “She was so freaking mean to me. I was in shock.”

Toni openly acknowledged her deep respect and affection for Oprah before the interview took place, expressing that she had never anticipated Oprah would be as critical as she turned out to be during their conversation. She said, “I couldn’t believe it because I loved her so much. I admired her and looked up to her, and she pretty much reprimanded me.”

According to Braxton’s recollection, Oprah’s disapproval didn’t stop there. Toni remembered Oprah saying something along the lines of, “I’ve heard you have Gucci flatware.”

Feeling significantly diminished, Toni responded, “You got Gucci flatware ’cause you didn’t want to buy it. It’s not ’cause you couldn’t afford it. What do you mean?” And immediately, she made me feel this big.

Toni Braxton’s journey to bankruptcy traces back to the 1980s when she initially emerged in the music scene as part of The Braxtons, an R&B group comprising herself and her sisters Tracy, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar Braxton. Although they experienced some success, Toni’s solo career took a significant turn after the release of her debut solo single “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” in 1992. The song, featured on the soundtrack of Eddie Murphy’s film “Boomerang,” marked her solo breakthrough and prompted Toni to venture into a solo career.

Toni’s solo career soared to new heights with the release of her debut solo album in 1993, which not only claimed the top spot on the Billboard album chart but also featured popular hits like “Another Sad Love Song” and “Breathe Again.” The success continued with her second album, “Secrets,” launched in 1996, which became another massive hit, selling over 15 million copies globally. The album boasted the biggest hit of Toni’s career, “Un-Break My Heart,” a chart-topper for an astonishing 11 weeks, propelling Toni to unparalleled international music stardom.

Despite enjoying a career that many artists would envy, marked by remarkable success, including record sales that surpassed $170 million for her label, by 1998, Toni Braxton found herself declaring bankruptcy. She recalled in a 2012 interview with ABC News, “The Vegas show, I just renewed my contracts with all my vendors,” she explained. “And then a month later, I got sick. I couldn’t work and could not afford to pay them back.”

A female artist, despite achieving global record sales surpassing 70 million, found herself declaring bankruptcy not once but twice in a brief period. Surprisingly, Toni’s financial woes originated from a disastrous record contract that severely limited her earnings during the pinnacle of her career. These challenges were further compounded by significant health issues she faced.

“How could anybody blow through upwards of $50 million? Well, start with a fetish for silverware and sheets, throw in a few other big-ticket items, and mix with some bad luck.”

Fans were astonished when Toni filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in January 1998. This was particularly shocking given that merely two years earlier, she had released the worldwide hit “Un-Break My Heart,” selling over 5 million copies and earning her a Grammy award. Moreover, Toni’s second studio album, “Secrets,” launched in 1996, achieved remarkable success with over 6 million units sold in the United States and an additional 3 million worldwide.

“Selling had ‘Un-Break My Heart,’ and she didn’t feel that. I don’t know what the situation was, but I know I got it, so we kind of flipped off there.”

Upon initiating her bankruptcy proceedings, the mother of two, according to court documents, disclosed that her music had amassed an impressive sum exceeding $170 million in sales from her first two studio albums. Surprisingly, it was revealed that Toni Braxton’s accumulated debts exceeded $50 million at that time. Braxton’s insolvency had its roots in an unfavorable recording contract with LaFace Records, a subsidiary of Arista Records, which resulted in her earning less than $2,000 in royalties despite the enormous success of her first two albums. This is a shockingly low sum considering she had sold a total of over 10 million records at that point.

In addition to these financial challenges, Braxton faced mounting medical bills, leading her to file for bankruptcy a second time in 2010. Despite these setbacks, she experienced a resurgence in her career, thanks to her involvement in the reality TV series “Braxton Family Values” and a series of successful tours.

There have been speculations that Oprah had an indirect role in shaping events for several other notable individuals, including Monique. Nevertheless, Monique herself has remained notably discreet on the matter.

“Was I not supposed to stand up for my husband and our baby and let their disrespect continue?”

In December 2022, Monique conveyed a heartfelt birthday message to her husband, Sydney Hicks, her devoted life partner and business partner for more than three decades. The touching post included an affectionate photograph of the couple kissing. While the message was intended to be a joyous tribute to her spouse, Monique also utilized it to emphasize how the relationship has empowered her to find her voice. She shared, “When you walked into my life, I had to find me. I had to learn me, and I had to love me.”

Monique has never been one to shy away from speaking out, and she attributes much of this forthrightness to her husband. In 2019, during an interview with Comedy Hype, Monique asserted that she and Oprah have a strained relationship, suggesting that Oprah had a significant influence on hindering Monique’s career after she stood up for herself. Monique recounted an incident during a business meeting with her husband, Sydney, where a suggestion was made for him to refrain from joining the session. Despite her desire to maintain respect for the women present, she faced pressure to exclude her husband. Monique, however, firmly believed in the importance of mutual respect, particularly within the workplace, and felt that the issue could have been resolved with a simple conversation. In a passionate statement, she declared, “The fact that Oprah Winfrey had the audacity to attempt to dictate the presence of my husband in our professional discussions speaks volumes about her disrespect towards our partnership and our family.” This encounter left Monique questioning the integrity of Oprah Winfrey’s approach.

According to Monique, her forthright demeanor has encountered its fair share of resistance from Oprah Winfrey. Monique elaborated, “I couldn’t accept the notion that my husband should be excluded from our business discussions, especially when it pertains to my career and our family. This insistence on disrespect from certain quarters was unacceptable to me.”

In 2020, during an interview with Comedy Hype, Monique again asserted that Oprah had played a role in hindering her career progress. Monique shared, “After winning an Academy Award for ‘Precious,’ I found myself being told by Oprah Winfrey that I needed to ‘play the game’ and conform to certain industry norms. When I refused to compromise my principles, I believe it had a direct impact on my career opportunities.”

Monique has consistently maintained that her outspokenness and refusal to conform to industry pressures have led to her facing challenges in Hollywood. Despite these obstacles, she remains resolute in her commitment to authenticity and self-respect.

In another instance, Monique brought to light an experience involving her appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where she discussed the trauma she endured from childhood sexual abuse. Monique recalled, “I didn’t anticipate that Oprah would invite my family members, including my abuser, onto the show without my prior consent. This unexpected confrontation was deeply distressing and felt like a betrayal.”

Furthermore, Monique highlighted the continuous challenges she has faced due to her principled stance. She said, “Even after expressing my discomfort and setting boundaries, I found myself being marginalized and ostracized by key figures in the industry, including Oprah Winfrey.”

As we can observe, Raven-Symoné, Toni Braxton, and Monique have all faced unique challenges and experiences in their careers. These stories reveal the complexities of navigating personal and professional relationships within the entertainment industry. While their encounters with Oprah Winfrey have elicited mixed reactions, it’s essential to consider these narratives within the broader context of their individual journeys and the challenges they have overcome.
