While Chris Evans is trying to close the superhero chapter, fans refuse to believe that they won’t see him reprise Steve Rogers’ role again in the foreseeable future.

Hugh Jackman’s serendipitous return as Wolverine to the land of the living sparked hope across the Marvel fandom. After all, it’s the perfect recipe to revive characters that once perished (we’re all looking at you Robert Downey Jr.) or bring back those with a nebulous future like Captain America.

But while there’s still a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to RDJ’s Iron Man, the same can’t be said for Chris Evans’ once-frozen Cap. Fans, however, think otherwise.

Chris Evans on Whether He’d Come Back to the MCU

Avengers: Endgame wasn’t just a box-office supernova, it was one of the most epochal entries in Marvel history and an incredibly tear-inducing one at that.

Robert Downey Jr.‘s tragic demise took a toll on thousands of fans across the globe. And while Sam Wilson would continue Captain America’s historic legacy, it still hurt to say goodbye to Chris Evans in the MCU. Then the studio dropped a Logan-sized bomb on everyone and the game changed radically.

Marvel President Kevin Feige himself claimed that Hugh Jackman’s comeback in Deadpool 3 can be a prelude to reinstating such long-dead characters. But while the Iron Man star may be looking forward to a potential reprisal (via Esquire), Evans isn’t keen on picking up Steve Rogers’ fabled shield again.

In a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, when the Marvel alum was asked whether he’d like a Captain America homecoming, his response was a crystal clear negative. “No. No, not really,” he said. But fans – ever the glass-half-full lot – refuse to believe him (via The Hollywood Handle on X).

Fans Are Rooting For Captain America’s Return

The Ghosted star may have been vocal about not donning Captain America’s superhero garb again, but fans think he’s bluffing about it, just like Jackman did after James Mangold’s Logan.

Whether this is blind optimism or denial, there’s no telling. But Hugh Jackman‘s return as Wolverine (after his supposed retirement from the role), in perhaps one of the biggest superhero tentpoles, has evidently done a number on fans.

At the end of Endgame, we see Steve Rogers get his much-deserved happy ending with Peggy Carter during his odyssey back in time. And while we don’t see him actually die, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that he kicked the bucket due to old age.

After playing the beloved soldier for almost a decade, Evans retired from the role, albeit he didn’t completely rule out a return. At least not until last year.

“I’ll never say never,” The First Avenger star told GQ in 2023. “Just because it was such a wonderful experience.” Recently, however, he’s been hesitant about the prospect. So, we’ll have to wait and watch what the future holds.
