Dillian Whyte has voiced his opinion on Tyson Fury’s upcoming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, suggesting that Fury’s past battles may have finally caught up with him.
In a shocking turn of events, Tyson Fury suffered his first career defeat against Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed showdown in May. Usyk nearly stopped Fury in the ninth round, leading to questions about Fury’s current form and resilience.
Whyte, who lost to Fury in a domestic clash in April 2022, acknowledges that Fury has a chance to win but only if he hasn’t deteriorated from his previous performances. “It’s heavyweight boxing so anything is possible and you can’t write Fury off,” Whyte told iFL TV. “But maybe these hard fights he’s had have taken a toll on him, you never know.”
Whyte highlighted Fury’s history of tough fights and knockdowns, particularly his trilogy with Deontay Wilder, as potential factors that could impact his performance. “He’s human and he’s had a lot of hard fights, a lot of knockdowns and maybe it’s taken a toll on him and maybe he’s not even bothered or motivated anymore,” Whyte added.
Whyte believes that Usyk’s confidence will be at an all-time high after their first encounter. “If he trains right he’s big so stands a chance but Usyk’s self-confidence will be through the roof. And before he thought he could outbox him but now he knows he can hurt him so it’ll be a much more difficult task [for Fury] this time around.”
Fury’s form leading up to the Usyk fight had raised concerns. In his previous bout, he was knocked down by ex-UFC star Francis Ngannou, although he went on to win. Despite claiming he found the Usyk fight “easy” and that he believed he had won, many questioned if Fury still had the edge needed to overcome Usyk in a rematch.
As Tyson Fury prepares for his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, doubts about his condition and motivation loom large. Dillian Whyte’s comments underscore the significant challenge Fury faces as he seeks redemption in what promises to be an uphill battle.
