Ah, the art of the Zoom flirt. A fluttered eyelash here, a mutual unmute there…it’s a mating ritual endemic to the COVID-19 era and one that exes Brad Pitt and Jenifer Aniston proved to be adept in when they appeared in a virtual table read of the 1982 comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High on Thursday.
A whole host of stars gathered together on Zoom last Thursday for a charity table read of 1982 cult classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High, including Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, Henry Golding, Shia LaBeouf, John Legend, Jimmy Kimmel and more.
And while there was plenty to take away from the virtual fundraising event (with donations going to Penn’s emergency relief non-profit CORE and the Reform Alliance), from Freeman narrating salacious script lines in his signature baritone to LaBeouf method acting from inside his car, there’s no denying that two actors in particular stole the show. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Together. Flirting over Zoom.
Re-enacting one of the film’s iconic (and embarrassing) scenes, in which the character of Brad Hamilton (here voiced by Pitt) goes off to the bathroom to fantasise about his sister’s friend Linda Barrett (voiced by Aniston) who’s outside in the swimming pool, the former spouses delivered a #Brennifer moment enough to make our inner fangirls squeal.
“Hi, Brad,” said Aniston read out to her ex with cool remove. “You know how cute I always thought you were. I think you’re so sexy.
Will you come to me?” Pitt, bless his heart, blushed bashfully throughout the raunchy scene, as the rest of the cast dissolved into laughter and Freeman ad-libbed, “Lord, have mercy” at one point.
Add that to the good-natured greeting the duo exchanged before the read began — “Hi, Aniston!” “Hi Pitt!” “How you doing?” “Good, honey, how are you doing?” “I’m all right” — and it’s only understandable that the internet had a collective meltdown. The clip quickly made its rounds on social media, with longtime fans of the couple (still holding on to hope) losing it over the hilarious scene.
This isn’t the first time Pitt and Aniston have set the internet ablaze since their divorce in 2005, most notably at the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, when photos of the pair crossing paths backstage sent everyone into a tizzy.
