Princess Diana may have once paved the way for son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan to enjoy a quite life on their own terms, but she wouldn’t have supported his ongoing feud with brother Prince William, claims expert

The once beloved Princess of Wales was hugely present in both of her sons lives, up until her tragic death on August 31, 1997, when she died following a car accident, yet while the brothers had come together in their grief for the first few decades since that fateful day, now almost 30 years on – the pair couldn’t be more distant.

Much of the difficulties stemmed from Prince Harry ’s decision to step back from royal life with his wife Meghan Markle back in 2020, and his subsequent move to the United States to raise his young family. Yet while this alone wouldn’t have caused too much friction, while living in the USA, Harry and Meghan levelled a number of damning allegations against the royal family in an Oprah Winfrey interview, Harry’s memoir Spare, and their own Netflix documentary series.

Clearly hurt by many of the claims made, Prince William took issue with his brother and seemingly cut ties with him, with the pair only having appeared in the same place since on a handful of occasions since, with the reception more than a little frosty.

It’s this distance and hostility that would’ve “saddened” their mother, believes former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, who told OK magazine that: “If Diana were still here, I doubt if the rift between her sons would ever have got so deep. She would have found a way to make them understand one another and resolve their differences. And that’s another great sadness about the tragedy that led to her death.”

Jennie also believes that Diana would’ve been supportive of Prince Harry’s decision to step out of the limelight and raise his children privately, as Diana herself had often sought to seek a respite away from the fame that came with being a member of the royal family.

“I think she would also have done her best to support Harry and Meghan and would have had a great deal of sympathy with their decision to make a life outside the Palace walls,” remarked Jennie, before adding: “After all….she had paved the way for that.”
