‘I Felt That Gush’… MMA Star Misses Out on $50,000 Bonus Despite Winning with a Brutal KO via TKO at UFC Vegas 97 | HO

UFC lightweight Chris Padilla asked for a $50,000 bonus last night, but narrowly lost out despite a brutal stoppage.

The exciting California native scored his second UFC knockout by leaving Chinese fighter Rongzhu with a gruesome eye injury that forced doctors to stop the fight. However, it wasn’t enough to impress the bosses and earn him a performance bonus.

Padilla came to the promotion earlier this year when he submitted James Llontop in an upset victory after three wins on the regional circuit. But none of his wins as an underdog have been enough to earn him a bonus check from the promotion.

Padilla came to the promotion earlier this year when he submitted James Llontop in an upset victory after three wins on the regional circuit. But none of his wins as an underdog have been enough to earn him a bonus check from the promotion.

With that in mind, he faced regional circuit veteran Chris Padilla in his return to the Octagon. The pair shared a very even first round, in which one judge deemed Rongzhu had done enough to win, but the second proved to be brutal.

Padilla landed an elbow that caused Rongzhu’s eye to swell almost instantly, forcing doctors to intervene. When the true gruesome nature of the injury was revealed, referee Kerry Hatley was forced to stop the fight immediately.

Chris Padilla demands bonus after horrible win in second year in UFC

Following his win, Padilla demanded a $50,000 performance bonus from the promotion, as is customary for the most impressive victories at any event. The win was one of only two stoppages by KO or TKO on the night, and a brutal way for the lightweight to win.

“So I was like, ‘ah, I gotta kill you now,’ and when they called the [doctor] in, I was like, ‘he doesn’t want any more.’ This is no disrespect because I think I really did crush his eye, personally. I felt that f***ing mush, excuse my language.

Bonuses awarded after UFC Vegas 97

Durden showed up on short notice to face veteran promoter Matt Schnell in their matchup, and scored a second-round anaconda choke submission. It was enough of a win to force his opponent to retire, as he emotionally left his gloves in the cage.
