Lennox Lewis fears for Jake Paul’s safety in showdown Against Tyson: ‘I don’t want him to get hurt!’
Tyson and Paul will face each other on June 6 at AT&T Stadium.
The fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul continues to attract attention. Even one of “Iron Mike’s” greatest rivals, Lennox Lewis, threw in his two cents by implying that he was relieved that the fight was just an exhibition match and not an officially sanctioned bout.
Although Tyson and Lewis faced each other in 2002, already in the twilight of their respective careers, the British fighter could still feel the American’s punching power to its fullest.
The fight between the two former heavyweight champions was involved in controversy. One of the press conferences even ended in a pitched battle. The fight was held on June 8 of that year and ended with victory for Lewis by knockout in the eighth round.
With this background, it’s clear that Lewis knows what Paul will face on Saturday, July 20, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Lewis supports Tyson
In a quick interview with TMZ Sports, “The Lion” Lewis admitted that he was looking forward to seeing his former rival’s next fight. “Absolutely, absolutely, it’s going to be a great fight. I’m looking forward to it,” the former champion accepted.
However, he also expressed concern for the well-being of the so-called “Problem Child.” When the reporter asked him if he would have liked it to be a sanctioned fight, Lewis responded without hesitation: “No, ’cause I would feel really bad for Jake Paul. I don’t want him to get hurt.”
It should be remembered that the organizers sought to have Tyson-Paul licensed as a professional fight, but they were unable to do so.
Lewis is rooting for Tyson
The rivalry between “The Lion” and “Iron Mike” was one for the ages. However, at least on Lewis’ part, there are no hard feelings. In fact, it is not the first time that the former British fighter has shown himself in favor of Tyson in his fight against Paul.
Last week, Lewis shared on his Instagram account a videogame simulation of what the fight between Tyson and Paul could be like. The fight ended in a matter of seconds, when Tyson landed a solid blow to Paul’s head, who fell instantly.
“So I hear @miketyson will be fighting @jakepaul. Not quite sure how that will go, but it could be something like this,”Lewis commented in the video. Undoubtedly, he knows what he is talking about.
