Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance is not a like-for-like replacement for Dak Prescott, says Robert Griffin III.

Trey Lance just got the chance to show he is better than Dak Prescott. But alas, it didn’t work out as was expected. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback had a nightmare preseason game throwing five interceptions against the Los Angeles Chargers. Not the best way to prove his high draft pick status. Despite that, former QB Robert Griffin III had a bizarre take away from the game.
Like many others who analyze football games, Griffin watched the game closely and then reviewed it again. He took to his official X account to share his observations on Lance’s performance.
Watched the tape back on Trey Lance. Trey Lance has NFL Superstar level playmaking ability with Blockbuster level decision making. If you said he was the replacement for Dak Prescott, go ahead and deactivate your account. The 5 ints were bad and showed he is in the wrong offense.

His summary suggested he saw a ‘Superstar level’ player, that too, despite throwing five interceptions and finishing with a disastrous 52.9 passer rating.
Robert Griffin III based his logic on the fact that Trey Lance is not a like-for-like replacement for Dak Prescott. Instead, he believes that Lance is a dual threat quarterback who needs play designs more suited to his skills rather than that of a pocket passer. But that still does not explain his interceptions.

The first play he did not see WR Ryan Flournoy getting open when 3 defenders were sliding to Jalen Moreno-Cropper. The second one, none of his receivers were open, but still threw it. 3rd one was not high enough. 4th one was not completely his fault. 5th one was too high. Those are inexplicable regardless of quarterback ‘type’ and certainly does not scream ‘Superstar’.
Skip Bayless not happy with Trey Lance’s interceptions
I am out of my mind. It was Trey Lance’s Super Bowl. Cause I needed him to flash some brilliance that would make Jerry Jones stop and say ‘No, I can’t sign Dak for 5 more years and give him top QB money’. And what does Trey Lance do? He throws 5 interceptions. I wanna defend him, and I can’t defend 5.

Bayless was high on Trey Lance and wanted him to eventually take over as the starting quarterback of his favorite team. But even he cannot defend that awful performance.

He acknowledged that owner Jerry Jones might have seen enough and could trade him away. But he also suggested that there is a bit of brilliance in Lance. The way he keeps his head cool despite being only 24 years old is brilliant. Skip Bayless was expecting Lance to make his case and help Jones get rid of Dak Prescott sooner.

Even then, he cannot defend five interceptions. He knows some of those throws would make even a novice scratch their heads. It will be a wait and watch situation to see how the Dallas Cowboys work with Lance going forward.
