INCREDIBLE! ALL 14 RECORDS Caitlin Clark SHATTERED This WNBA SEASON & What She Did Changes The Game! | HO
Caitlin Clark keeps rewriting the WNBA record books.
The Indiana Fever rookie notched her 317th assist of the season Friday night against the Las Vegas Aces, breaking Alyssa Thomas’ league record. Thomas, of the Connecticut Sun, established that record last season, in which Courtney Vandersloot had 314.
The No. 1 overall draft pick had 312 assists entering Friday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark broke the rookie (Ticha Penicheiro had 225 in 1998) and franchise (Erica Wheeler had 201 in 2023) records earlier this year. She had a single-game record 19 assists July 17 vs. the Dallas Wings.
The Iowa graduate is almost certainly headed toward the Rookie of the Year award. She has been Rookie of the Month three times, and earlier this week earned her third straight Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor.
Caitlin Clark’s rookie season in the WNBA has been nothing short of historic. From breaking long-standing records to redefining the expectations of a rookie, Clark’s debut has captured the attention of the basketball world. Let’s dive into the unprecedented milestones she’s achieved and explore how her game-changing performance is reshaping the landscape of women’s basketball.
1. The Triple Double Trailblazer
Caitlin Clark made history not once but twice by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple double. On July 6, 2024, Clark’s all-around performance against the New York Liberty showcased her versatility, as she logged 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists. This was a milestone not only for Clark but for the Indiana Fever, marking their first-ever rookie triple double. Two months later, on September 4, she did it again against the Los Angeles Sparks with a stat line of 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. These performances set a new benchmark for rookies and underscored Clark’s ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
2. Three-Point Shooting Phenomenon
Clark’s shooting prowess from beyond the arc is breaking records and changing how the game is played. On August 28, 2024, she surpassed Ryan Howard’s rookie record of 85 three-pointers by hitting 88 in a single season. Her shooting didn’t stop there; on June 7, she tied the all-time rookie record for most threes in a single game with seven. By September 4, Clark had reached 100 three-pointers in just 34 games, the fastest in WNBA history. Her deep shooting has forced defenses to extend further out, creating new opportunities for her and her teammates.
3. Assist Aficionado
Clark’s vision and passing have set new standards in the WNBA. On July 17, 2024, she shattered the single-game assist record with 19 dimes, displaying an uncanny ability to thread the needle and find her teammates. By August 18, she had accumulated 286 assists, surpassing Tia Pennero’s 244 assists from 1998, and establishing a new rookie record. Clark’s assist numbers reflect her ability to elevate her teammates’ play and fundamentally alter the Fever’s offensive strategies.
4. All-Star Game Domination
Caitlin Clark’s impact extended to the All-Star Game, where she set the record for the most assists by a rookie with 10. Not only did she shine in this showcase event, but she also received over 700,000 votes, the most ever by any player in WNBA history. Her performance in the All-Star Game solidified her place among the league’s elite and highlighted her growing influence on the sport.
5. Scoring and Assists Milestones
Clark’s rookie season has redefined what’s possible for a first-year player. She reached 400 points and 200 assists faster than any player in WNBA history, achieving these milestones in just 24 and 26 games, respectively. This rapid pace has put her in MVP conversations and redefined expectations for what a rookie can achieve.
6. Dual Threat: Three-Pointers and Assists
Clark’s ability to combine scoring and playmaking has set a new standard. She became the first player ever to accumulate 100 three-pointers and 200 assists in a single season. This unique combination of skills demonstrates her versatility and challenges traditional notions of player roles in basketball.
